The role.
We’re looking for a positive, organised, and self-motivated team player with a proven track record of effective product safety and quality management.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will work within our Technical function to manage and lead our Quality Assurance team, ensuring our products and processes meet the highest standards. You will foster a culture of quality throughout the company, set guidelines, and provide expert technical support.
The responsibilities.
As Quality Assurance Manager, you will:
· Set a clear example by following business values, promoting high personal and professional standards within the QA team and across the business, managing communication with internal and external customers, suppliers, and teams to meet technical needs.
· Effectively manage team challenges and ensure all colleagues and visitors comply with Health & Safety, Technical, Environmental, and HR policies.
· Contribute to business continuity and crisis management plans, providing cost center input and managing within defined budgets.
· Support the daily production meetings and attend EOS Technical (Manufacturing and Operations) meetings when required.
· Provide flexibility in covering/deputising for other management roles as needed.
· Work closely with cross-functional teams in Operations and Manufacturing to ensure site processes operate efficiently and effectively, within process capabilities.
· Walk the site daily to ensure visibility on the shop floor, conducting weekly site walks with managers, engineers, and hygiene teams.
· Review and apply relevant standards (e.g., Microbiology, Hygiene) to meet customer and legal requirements, ensuring HACCP principles are implemented.
· Conduct risk assessments, internal audits, and factory production trials to ensure technical compliance and readiness for audits.
· Lead HACCP initiatives, pest control, and manage non-conformance logs, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
· Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) through root cause analysis, problem-solving, and adherence to RFT (Right First Time) principles.
· Coordinate lab testing (e.g., micro, pesticide, nutritional) and ensure results are communicated and corrective actions are implemented.
· Manage product validation processes and ensure regular review of testing schedules.
· Develop the technical team's knowledge through coaching, training, and performance reviews, supporting the Technical Manager on a daily basis.
· Oversee technical folders, calibration systems, and ensure audit readiness at all times.
· Participate in customer complaint investigations and undertake traceability, mass balance, and mock recall exercises as per internal audit schedules.
· Support the site by contributing to business audits, GMP audits, and ensuring all audits and checks (e.g., glass & hard plastic) are completed within agreed timescales.
· Undertake weekly taste panels, escalating and investigating any issues that arise.
· Ensure effective delegation and organisation of work, planning tasks, and managing workloads across the team.
The skillset.
· A degree in food science or a relevant discipline.
· Previous hands–on experience within a food manufacturing environment.
· Level 3 HACCP qualification.
· Thorough factory knowledge, preferably RTE, fresh produce, bottling.
· Excellent communication and IT skills including Excel.
· Familiar with improving systems, processes and interpreting data sets.
· Experience of Unleashed, Mint Soft or other ERP Systems is desirable, but not essential
