About the Role
We have a unique opportunity for a qualified Occupational Therapist to join our Team at The Devonshire Care Home in Reading,
This will be on a freelance basis
Maria Mallaband Care Group is registered for several categories of care. As a quality operator it is essential that the occupational therapist recognises and accepts that this means always acting in a sensitive and professional manner for the best interest of the organisation and its Residents.
Key Tasks include but are not limited to:
* Promote and drive forward the Company's quality/clinical training agenda in the Business.
* Liaise with functional/departmental leads as necessary to analyse staff clinical training and development needs
* Keep up to date with developments in physiotherapy by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses. Any bespoke courses needed to keep up registration must be referred to the Training Manager or the Specialist Nurse Consultant for booking and approval.
* Encourage staff to contribute to decisions on working methods and practices. Liaising with care staff and nurses to achieve the best outcome for the Service Users.
* Promote and support staff autonomy and accountability.
* Develop/facilitate workshops and educational sessions where required for regimes prescribed for an individual service user when you are not on site.
* Actively keep own skills and knowledge up to date and maintain continuous professional development in line with the HCPC
* Provide support and consistently accurate clinical advice to services using relevant specialist knowledge.
* Using specialist knowledge monitor staff performance, identify clinical training needs and share knowledge through demonstration & instruction
* To assist, where appropriate, in the development and implementation of good practice (such as care pathways, guidelines and protocols) to improve Service User outcomes.
* Use specialist knowledge to assess problems and evaluate options to ensure the most effective solution is proposed.
* To ensure that users' and carers' views are represented and integrated into practice and the clinical governance framework
* To work with the Service Manager to achieve outcomes set.
* To comply with all relevant regulations, including Health and Social Care Act 2008 and Regulations 2009, and the regulator HCPC.
* To update own knowledge and reflect on own practice in order to ensure continuous professional improvement
Skills you will have:
* Develop a good understanding of the Company, the industry, what we do and our work culture and environment.
* Ensure the development of strong relationships with key partners in the community, playing an important role in strengthening the MMCG brand and raising the group’s profile.
* Ensure compliance with company policies and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
* Fulfil any duties as requested that are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post.
* Devise detailed treatment plans incorporated in care planning for each service user. • Communication and coordinate with Service Users, Nurses and Care staff to ensure a consistent level of excellent care.
* Exercise independent judgement based on experience to implement effective treatment combinations.
* Evaluate reports and care plans based on Service Users Progress
* Refer to external professionals for advice and prescribed treatment where needed.
* Comply with government regulations (HCPC) and ensure that all CPD hours are met as per regulator requirements.
The Devonshire
The Devonshire provides 24-hour nursing care, in addition to supporting those living with dementia and other long-term conditions. Conveniently located to nearby Tilehurst village, the home benefits from excellent local transport links and is easily accessible by train, bus and car. River View is divided into smaller accommodation units, offering an intimate friendly atmosphere where residents and carers get to know each other well and staff can tailor care to the individual and differing needs of residents. All 137 rooms are en-suite and are decorated with modern fixtures and fittings. The activity team provide a daily programme of activities and events that appeal to the hobbies and interests of residents including baking and arts and carts. The home hosts regular events inviting local community groups to the home and welcome entertainers for the enjoyment on all residents home on a regular basis. External trips out are also organised for residents, their families and friends.
