Overview of the role The role of the Team Leader is to provide support and guidance to a team of social care workers, whilst making sure you always provide the highest level of care and lead by example. You will also liaise with the seniors in the home reporting any matters of concern. You must have experience in the care sector and have the willingness to learn and expand on your previous knowledge. Key duties Taking the lead with supporting adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in a residential care environment Supervising a team and assisting with the overall management of the home Liaising with managers and other shift leaders Executing any tasks allocated in a professional, timely and accurate manner Supervising and sharing mealtimes with residents to encourage a positive attitude towards food and dining Assisting residents in their daily activities whether this be in or away from the home Using your initiative when supporting residents during their activities and with day-to-day tasks Personal attributes Being patient, reliable, flexible, a team player and a good communicator are key characteristics of a successful Team Leader. Downham Lodge is an eight-bedroom residential home for men and women with mental health conditions. The home can support a wide spectrum of conditions, including personality disorder, schizophrenia and acquired brain injury. Residents are relatively independent and are able to prepare and cook their own meals with minimal staff support. The group is sociable and active, with most residents preferring to spend time in the communal areas and going out together for activities. Located in a pleasant residential area of Southsea, close to the seafront and the amenities of Portsmouth, the property has recently been completely refurbished to provide contemporary ensuite bedrooms, a shared dining room and two separate lounges, as well as a small garden. The home has an activity store containing gym equipment, a sewing machine, arts and crafts materials and two house bikes. There is also sports equipment, such as footballs and tennis rackets, that can be used at the seafront common a short walk away. Downham Lodge runs regular day trips to nearby towns and the Isle of Wight and has its own transport. It supports residents to engage with local colleges and online courses, music groups and voluntary work. The home has organised coffee mornings, Halloween parties, healthy eating events, recycling workshops, dance classes and more. SL000
