JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Fitness Associate Directorate: Community and Wellbeing Service: Leisure and Amenities Service Unit: Initially Leisure, may be required to work in any service unit within Leisure and Amenities Location: Initially Comber Leisure Centre, may be required to work in any leisure location across the borough Reports to: Fitness Officer/Duty Manager/Operations Officer/Assistant Manager Salary Scale: Scale 5 SCP 13 - 18 Car User Status: Casual PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF THE POST You will be flexible and collaborative, supporting all colleagues and activities to deliver leisure service objectives. You will undertake a wide range of duties across various leisure facilities. As a Fitness Associate, you will implement the Councils Fitness Rehabilitation Strategy, delivering health and fitness programs both inside and outside the gym environment. You will also provide quality customer service, devise fitness instruction programs, lead coaching classes, and manage exercise referral and rehabilitation programs. You will ensure facilities are clean, equipment is functional, and health and safety standards are met. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Improve member retention and reduce attrition. Monitor gym floor and equipment usage. Assist with increasing memberships and meeting membership targets. Create personalized fitness programs and monitor customer usage. Provide excellent customer care and deliver professional inductions. Support the delivery of exercise programs for special populations, such as Healthwise Exercise Referral. Maintain customer databases and manage sensitive medical records in line with GDPR. Conduct facility tours and assist with event setups. Deliver nutrition information and contribute to center-based programs. Assist with processing memberships and conducting exit interviews. Deliver presentations promoting health and wellbeing. Assist with the induction of new staff and work placement students. Ensure health and safety standards are maintained. Perform equipment checks and report defects. Assist with quality assurance awards and maintain customer care standards. Perform reception duties including cash handling, processing bookings, and selling memberships. Provide emergency care and response when needed. Undertake additional duties as needed to cover for leave, sickness, etc. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Qualifications: Recognized Fitness qualification at Level 2 or above (e.g., NIIC, GNVQ II, Premier) Qualification enabling the delivery of classes from the Energy timetable (e.g., Indoor Cycle, Circuits, Kettlebells) PARS qualification or willingness to obtain. Desirable Qualifications: Academic qualification in leisure industry. Sports-specific coaching qualification. First Aid qualification. IT qualification (e.g., CLAIT II, ECDL). Experience: Experience in a customer-focused environment. Relevant experience in the leisure industry and fitness class delivery. Reception duties experience in a similar environment. Other Requirements: Willingness to work a flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends, public holidays). Consent to an enhanced Access NI check. Commitment to ongoing training and development. Appendix 1 Generic Duties: Perform cleaning and housekeeping tasks, including stocking supplies, cleaning facilities, and maintaining equipment. Act as a First Aider and respond to emergency situations. Assist with special events, equipment setup, and dealing with anti-social behavior. Remain on-site during breaks, which may be interrupted due to service requirements.
