Job summary Applications are invited for a Locally Employed Doctor StR3 level in the department of Healthcare for Older People. This is a Locally Employed Doctor post with service requirements and training that aims to deliver career training and development to doctors in a clear structure with educational support. The post is structured to provide dedicated training and education with the aim to provide a tailored learning agreement for each individual to support them in achieving their career goals. Our Locally Employed Doctors will be part of a team of resident doctors who are assigned to different wards within the Department of Healthcare of Older People. Every successful candidate will be supported by a named educational supervisor. This role will suit a person with a declared interest in Healthcare of Older people. The post is fixed term for 6 months with a 3 month probation period by default. The applicants will be required to commit to complete the term of the contract. There is a notice period of 3 months, and the post holder will be based at Good Hope Hospital, although there may be occasions where you will need to visit our other sites. Main duties of the job To provide clinical care for older patients with acute medical illness admitted to Healthcare of Older people wards and Stroke Unit. There is a ward-based system of care with excellent consultant supervision and registrar support. The Locally Employed Doctor will join a team of resident doctors on the Healthcare of Older people wards. The post holder will be expected to participate in general medical on call. There will be opportunity to attend outpatient clinic per week, with consultant and registrar support. The unit comprises of 4 acute older people wards & 1 acute stroke ward. There is also an active multidisciplinary day unit and outpatient clinics providing specialist care for patients with general medical illness as well as those with TIA and minor stroke, Parkinson's disease, falls, osteoporosis, and rapid access frail older people community referrals. The unit is supported by community intermediate care rehabilitation teams. There are excellent multidisciplinary team support comprising, therapists, pharmacy, specialist nurses and social work. To join a team of 37 resident doctors, 3 registrars, plus support from a Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) providing supervised inpatient care for older patients with acute illness as well as those requiring specialist hospital-based rehabilitation in stroke ward.
