Stark Works is the new connections (ICP, UIP, SLP) division of Stark Group. The business has seen sales double in the last year – and is on track to double again this year. Alongside growth, the team have delivered over 20 MU projects in the last year, building a reputation based on open communication, trust and going the extra mile to ensure we deliver for clients. The role To lead the Stark Works operations team to deliver all new connections projects on budget, safely and to the standards required by both our clients and our accreditations. As part of the infrastructure senior leadership team, input into the broader strategic direction, owning certain initiatives as appropriate, to ensure we continue on our current growth trajectory. Responsibilities & accountabilities Accountability for the successful delivery of a portfolio of residential and I&C MU new connections projects, ranging in value from £20k to £1m - from handover and design through to completion and network asset value payment. Build and develop an operations team capable of market leading delivery. Exceed the target gross margin across the portfolio, ensuring adequate commercial controls and reporting are in place. Maintain our LRQA accreditations, obtaining any new accreditations, as required. Maintain positive relationships with all clients, supporting the business development team on customer meetings where required to secure high value projects. Working with our SHEQ Advisor, ensure adequate SHEQ controls are in place and adhered to by all relevant staff and subcontractors. Expand our network of suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring we benefit from improved terms as we grow. Propose and implement tactical and longer-term plans to improve key outcomes (margin delivery, customer satisfaction and SHEQ). Support project managers, as required – including challenging projects, customer escalations and incident management. Working with our Performance Manager, improve delivery processes and systems – and present data driven performance updates and recommendations to the leadership team. Set and adhere to an annual budget, in line with group process. Experience and Skills 6 years’ delivery in an electrical (NERS) or multi-utility new connections business 2 years’ delivery of water (WIRS) self-lay provider (SLP) projects At least 3 years of leadership and management experience Commercial acumen and demonstrable success in delivering a portfolio of projects profitably NRSWA supervisor ticket Distribution Network Authorisation – UKPN, WPD, SSE Full UK driving licence and willingness ability to travel to where the work is Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certified (preferred, not essential) Strong written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, and construction of final-mile utility networks, including control and protection equipment. Organisational skills Project management skills, forecasting, and resourcing planning Interpersonal skills of communication, influencing, negotiation, persuasion, and diplomacy.
