Position: Temporary Housing Officer (Hybrid)
Location: Dorchester, Dorset Council (Hybrid )
Contract: 6-month Temporary Contract
Pay Rate: £22 - £24 per hour
Role Overview:
This role involves managing Dorset Council's temporary accommodation services, supporting clients in emergency housing, and collaborating with landlords, contractors, and other stakeholders. As a Housing Officer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring clients have safe, well-managed housing, addressing tenancy issues, and assisting vulnerable individuals through their transition to stable accommodations.
Key Responsibilities:
Accommodation Management: Maintain the quality and safety of properties through regular inspections, coordinating repairs, and monitoring voids to ensure units are ready for new clients.
Tenancy and Financial Oversight: Oversee tenancy agreements, manage rent collection, and pursue outstanding payments to support income management.
Client and Partner Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for clients, landlords, and contractors, conducting visits to ensure accommodation standards are maintained.
Client Placement Coordination: Arrange and oversee placements for clients in emergency accommodations and support their transition out of temporary housing as needed.
Issue Resolution: Address and resolve complaints and anti-social behaviour, working with relevant services to manage issues effectively.
Health and Safety Compliance: Conduct necessary safety checks and ensure accommodations meet all health and safety standards.
Requirements:
Education: Minimum of three GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English; Chartered Institute of Housing Level 4 qualification or a willingness to obtain it.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in housing management, property maintenance, income recovery, and collaborative work with external partners, ideally within a council or social housing environment.
Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, high attention to detail, numeracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant housing management systems.
Driving Requirement: This position requires regular travel; candidates must hold a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of housing benefits, welfare programs, and applicable housing legislation.
Familiarity with support services and housing options for individuals in need.
Additional Notes:
Hybrid Working: Combination of remote work and office presence in Dorchester, as needed.
