Duties Description
This Nutrition Services Administrator 1 (NSA 1) position will assist the NSA 2 in supervising a staff of dietitians as well as cover a clinical dietitian caseload to address the increasingly complex dietary needs and critical services needed to maintain the health and safety of the individuals supported in the Taconic district of Region 4. Along with the administrative functions such as approving time off, assisting NSA 2 with policy writing and implementation, administering the Meal Management section of the New Employee Orientation (NEO), directly oversee the dietitians as well as provide for each individual on their own caseload, including nutritional diagnosis and medical nutrition therapy to people receiving hemodialysis, with chewing and swallowing disorders, diabetes, obesity, GI malfunctions, cardiovascular diseases, low body weight, renal and other nutritionally related problems.
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Take an active role in implementing the HCBS initiative.
* Provide training and modeling of individualized meal and nutrition planning, as well as how to account for individuals' dignity of risk, to the interdisciplinary teams.
* Ensure the Choking Prevention Initiative (CPI) guidelines are disseminated throughout the region through the dietitians and provide training as part of the plan of corrective action following choking incidents.
* Conduct audits in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) of the dietitians documentation.
* Review job tasks including comprehensive nutritional assessments, semi-annual reviews for all IRA and Willowbrook Class individuals, and updating diet orders on an ongoing basis.
* Make recommendations to the medical providers.
* Update diet lists for staff to comply with individuals diets.
* Develop seasonal menus tailored to the individuals' nutrition needs.
* Perform monthly weight and lab value reviews.
* Conduct meal observations, and food safety & sanitation inspections (Nutrition Protective Oversight reports) of each home on their caseload.
* Diet and food/liquid consistency (Choking Prevention Initiative) training to staff and individuals.
* Other duties assigned as appropriate to their title.
Minimum Qualifications
PROMOTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or certification in Dietetics-Nutrition by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and one year of service as a Dietitian 2.
OPEN COMPETITIVE QUALIFICATIONS:
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or certification in Dietetics-Nutrition by the NYSED; and two years of post-registration/certification professional administrative experience in a food or nutrition program, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
* Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the Mid-Hudson adjustment. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for Grade 20 ($72,032) and Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,650). Mid-Hudson adjustment is added to the job rate ($91,381).
* If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
