The University of Warwick have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to join our Research Department. You will be responsible for managing a small team of Senior Research Finance Assistants (qualified to at least AAT level). Reporting to the Head of Finance (Research), you will take the lead on the post award financial management (accounting and the support of project management) of research and related grants and awards across a portfolio of University departments and activities. You will contribute to the development of financial and administrative management systems with a view to ensuring the efficient operation of the team and continued high quality of service delivery. About You You will be an ambitious and pro-active individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, will have experience within a Finance function and possess a sound knowledge of accounting standards and management accounting. You will possess a recognised CCAB or CIMA professional accountancy qualification. You will have excellent IT skills, including advanced Excel skills and an understanding of the structure of large-scale financial information systems, e.g. SAP. You will have the ability to manage a portfolio of research projects. Please note that a £5,000 per annum market supplement (pro-rated and non-pensionable) is available for the successful applicant on provision of proof of current membership of an approved accounting body and evidence they hold the appropriate accountancy qualifications. The role is campus based however staff can opt to work under the Finance Office’s current hybrid policy where a maximum of 40% of time (2 days per week for full-time staff) can be worked remotely. This is subject to review and whilst in the induction phase you’ll be required to work 100% in the office. Skills and Experience Essential First degree or equivalent experience. Recognised accountancy qualification (CCAB or CIMA). Broad experience within a comparable Finance function. Sound knowledge of accounting standards. Substantial experience of management accounting. Ability to effectively use financial systems (eg SAP) in order to extract and analyse financial information. High level of IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel (advanced) to analyse and communicate information. Good communication and presentational skills. Ability to work under own initiative, and with minimum supervision. Good interpersonal skills because of a need to effectively interact with a range of academic and administrative staff. Approachable and personal with a strong customer focus. Ability to be proactive and work to multiple deadlines. Desirable Previous experience in the management of EU funds. Previous experience in grants management. Overview knowledge of research finance. Sound knowledge of VAT. Knowledge and experience of contracting
