Full Time Assistant Psychologist Starting Salary: £26,500 Cygnet Hospital Bury Forestwood Cygnet Healthcare is seeking to recruit a full time, experienced and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join Forestwood Hospital at Cygnet Bury in Greater Manchester. This role will be working 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Cygnet Hospital Bury Forestwood provides a wide range of inpatient mental health services for young people aged between 12-18 across 4 wards: Primrose – a 12 bed PICU ward for young males and females Wizard House - a 12 bed general adolescent acute ward for young males and females Buttercup – an 8 bed PICU ward for young males and females Mulberry – a 12 bed low secure ward for young females. Job Role The role of the Assistant Psychologist will be to support and enhance the psychological care of young people within Forestwood hospital by assisting the Qualified Psychologists in the delivery and evaluation of effective services that meet Cygnet’s Healthcare objectives, national strategic and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements and user and carer needs and expectations. To thereby help understand, prevent and ameliorate psychological distress and disorder and improve mental health and wellbeing of young people in the care of the hospital. The role involves the administration, scoring and report writing of psychometric assessments, standardised risk assessments, clinical formulation and supervised individual and group interventions. Clinical supervision will be provided as an important part of personal and professional development, and additional training will be supported. Candidate Profile You will be a strong team player, confident, motivated and well organised. You will have a good understanding of the role of therapeutic boundaries, clinical risk and the importance of evidence-based interventions. Patience and commitment are essential, but above all you’ll be someone with a genuine desire to help others. We are looking for someone with a good degree in Psychology, further postgraduate training in a relevant area of applied psychology and mental health is desirable. Previous experience of working within in-patient mental health services and settings is essential, alongside some experience of working with young people who experience mental health difficulties. At least 6 months previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist and delivering 1:1 therapeutic work and group therapy sessions is desirable.
