Job Purpose:
We are recruiting a Communications and Engagement Director to support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) organization. The role will drive the engagement and communications efforts across the entire CMO organization, with a strong focus on supporting the Chief Medical Officer, their leadership team, and the Global Regulatory Affairs function.
The CMO organization is responsible for benefit-risk decision making for pipeline and marketed medicines and vaccines, Safety and Pharmacovigilance, Epidemiology, Bioethics, Medical Governance, Regulatory Policy, Quality and risk management (including data governance). The Communications and Engagement Director will help create a strong sense of connection with the CMO's vision of bridging the gap between scientific innovation and patient needs. The role will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications and engagement strategy that enhances and drives collaboration within CMO and across the R&D matrix, promoting alignment in messaging and a culture of information sharing. An additional focus will be on helping to deliver a strategic communications plan for Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) that aligns with the delivery of their objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Partner, as a member of the Extended CMO Leadership Team, with other members of the CMO Leadership Team in designing and delivering the Communications and Engagement plan and crafting a compelling narrative that connects and supports the CMO organization to deliver our 2025-26 ambitions and objectives.
* Generate, manage and reinforce clear, compelling and consistent content and key messages as needed to support the Communications and Engagement plan.
* Ensure coordinated activities and effective, timely communication of organizational key messages at all organizational levels in partnership with the appropriate CMO teams.
* Provide communications oversight for key departmental strategic initiatives, supporting the development and implementation of effective communication strategies, creating and disseminating engaging content, and ensuring consistent messaging across all channels to enhance the visibility and impact of the initiatives.
* Work closely with the R&D Culture & Engagement team to align CMO content with R&D Priorities, amplify key messages, elevate best practice examples from within the Org of the CMO and provide CMO input where necessary.
* Collaborate with Corporate Communications teams including the Media/Digital teams on cascading organizational messaging and amplifying relevant corporate initiatives, providing CMO input/spokesperson where necessary.
* Drive the agenda and impactful, aligned content of CMO related events, focusing on Town Halls, Leadership engagements, and other key events. Coordinate speakers, develop briefing documents and talking points in partnership with CoS/HR, coach presenters with their slide presentations and manage logistical arrangements in coordination with Executive Assistants and external agencies where relevant.
* Leverage existing communication channels effectively (Intranet, Workplace, MS Teams, emails, etc.) and promote adoption of new channels as needed.
* Oversee the content and strategy of the CMO intranet site and Workplace/WorkVivo groups, ensuring they remain up-to-date and relevant.
* On occasion, manage external agency support for creating videos, animations, infographics, and other deliverables required to meet business objectives.
* Support the CMO in their internal communications (drafting, coaching, designing, filming) and priority engagements, including site visits within the organization.
* Enhance the communication capabilities of the CMO Leadership Team including storytelling, communicating change and message delivery.
* Create/source communications training materials, guidelines, and reference documents, and champion their use to support and standardize communications within the CMO organization and its teams.
* Partner with the CMO network to strategically plan communications for in-depth updates on the CMO organization's initiatives to be shared within the broader organization.

* Experience in communication within the Pharma industry.
* Expertise in digital content and media.
* Experience coordinating cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
* Proven track record of influencing key stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you possess the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
* Experience developing and driving complex communication plans for senior leaders and their organizations.
* Experience organizing complex face-to-face interfaces, such as global events.
* Ability to work with senior leaders and be a trusted partner and advisor to the Chief Medical Officer.
* Vendor management experience.
