Our client is seeking an Assistant Accountant to play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and timely invoicing and revenue recognition. This position, based in Burton-upon-Trent, offers a competitive salary of £27,500. The ideal candidate will have a solid finance background and advanced Excel skills. Your work will contribute significantly to the financial accuracy and integrity of the company’s transactional processes including Accounts Payable, Credit Control and Billing.

What you'll do:
As an Assistant Accountant, your primary responsibility will be to ensure accurate and timely invoicing and revenue recognition. You will prepare tailored sales invoices for customers using advanced Excel functions. You will also address customer queries, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure timely payment. Your role will involve analysing the Payables ledger to identify trends and improvements. You will perform detailed reconciliations using Excel, supporting month-end revenue tasks. Working closely with the Credit Control team, you will help resolve outstanding issues. Additionally, you will assist in VAT returns, audits, and other month-end tasks.

* Address customer queries, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure timely payment.
* Analyse the Payables ledger to identify trends and improvements.
* Perform detailed reconciliations using Excel, supporting month-end revenue tasks.
* Work closely with the Credit Control team to resolve outstanding issues.
* Assist in VAT returns, audits, and other month-end tasks.
* Maintain accurate customer account and rate information within internal systems.
* Undertake additional tasks as needed to support the Logistics Finance team.
What you bring:
The ideal Assistant Accountant candidate brings expertise in advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, complex formulae, and data analysis. You have experience in a finance or accounting role focusing on invoicing, reconciliation or similar processes. Your strong attention to detail allows you to identify discrepancies and perform precise financial analysis. With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you interact confidently with customers and internal teams. You are comfortable working under pressure in a dynamic environment and have a proactive approach to problem-solving. Experience with Sales Ledger or Purchase Ledger functions is required, as is familiarity with VAT processes, audits or revenue recognition tasks.
