Location: Based at South Downs Centre Midhurst, working from the Bordon area and other locations Salary: £31,409 to £33,580 (£25,466 to £27,227 for 30 hours per week) Hours: 30 hours per week, working flexibly over 7 days Type of post: Fixed term for two years (March 2025 - March 2027)The Wealden Heath Strategic Access Monitoring and Management (SAMM) project is a South Downs National Park Authority initiative that provides a range of mitigation measures to partner local authorities. The aim of the initiative is to promote sustainable and mindful use of designated sites and, in doing so, protect the vulnerable habitats and the species that rely on them.The project aim is to mitigate public access impact on sites in the Wealden Heath Special Protected Areas (SPA) around Bordon in East Hampshire. A key element of the role is the provision of a positive on-site presence through site patrols and community engagement activities aimed at raising awareness of rare species. As well as delivering these measures, you will co-ordinate seasonal Assistant Engagement Rangers.We are looking to recruit for the position of Public Engagement Ranger to join the team based in Midhurst to work in the Bordon area. The main purpose of this role is to develop, co-ordinate and deliver a package of community engagement & monitoring solutions for heathland sites. This includes:a programme of public and community engagement activities and events.a schedule of site monitoring patrols & surveys. a plan of access improvements.Applicants should be enthusiastic, and self-motivated, with good communication and liaison skills and can collaborate effectively within a team. Experience of public engagement is essential, and good knowledge of conservation will be an advantage.Role scope:The duration of the current contract is for 2 years running from March 2025 to 2027. Whilst the requirements for the first year of the contract have been finalised, the work programme for year two is to be confirmed. However, it will be similar and likely to still be in the Bordon area. The role requires flexibility, which means there is potential for the core hours to fit lifestyle commitments. However, you will be required to cover “out of hours” duties at weekends, early mornings, and evenings. Longer hours are also likely during the events season, with any additional hours worked being taken off at another time. The role is based with the SDNPA in Midhurst with the potential remote working at other locations and sites in the Bordon area.
