Overall Purpose
A key member of the Leadership Team. Positively contribute to the Engineering Department through your Accountabilities whilst leading Shift Engineers to allow them to carry out their role as effectively as possible. Aiming for the highest standards to ensure the site runs efficiently with maximum uptime. Working a weekly 3 shift system mornings / afternoons / nights.
Span of Control/ Accountability
* Distribute PPM’s between team to target 100% completion. Take ownership of actions that are identified during a PPM, provide appropriate follow up to ensure the closure of outstanding work as quickly as possible i.e. ordering spares, checking stock, planning in remedial work. Continually review PPM’s for their relevance, accuracy and frequency. Feedback any improvements to Management.
* Maintain an up-to-date Work Tracker for the site, monitoring it to ensure Shift Engineers are updating it with their findings from breakdowns and/or PPM’s.
* Provide prompt resolutions of open actions.
* Discuss with relevant staff on lines to identify any ongoing issues that are to be addressed.
* Seek to identify improvement projects across site.
* Work to a high standard quality of workmanship and ensure the team carry the same standard.
* Participate in monthly appraisals for Shift Engineers.
* Input all relevant information on the Shift Handover sheet to enable effective continuity in ongoing works.
* Ensure the standard of organization and cleanliness is maintained and that consumable stock does not run low.
* Undertake regular line walks to discuss any ongoing issues with production staff and also identify any ongoing issues that may not have been raised by production. I.e. unusual noises, smells, visual checks across all areas.
* Attend SIC meetings on every shift at agreed times. Ensure that engineering input is valid and constructive and that any actions raised by production are addressed promptly and fed back to Shift Manager.
* Carry out daily tool checks on Shift Engineers to ensure their personal tool bags/ boxes are accurate, up to date and order ready. Ensure tool trolley is accurate, up to date and in a food safe condition. Ensure tool boxes and tools are kept in a food safe condition.
* Distribute Planned Works amongst team members. Do everything possible to close off Work Orders and ensure they are closed on Shire upon completion.
* Liaise with Shift Managers and agree downtime on KPI’s. Fill out the KPI spreadsheet with as much detail as required and computer savvy with word and Excel
* Contribute to the engineering training documents, creating OPL’s, SOP’s and WI’s.
* Aim for 100% completion of Shire reports for all work completed, ensuring that the volume of work completed is suitable for the length of the shift worked. Labour hours must be an honest appraisal of actual work completed.
* Give a structured report with sufficient detail, including the fault description, diagnosis process, remedial work carried out and/or if any additional work is required.
* Assess the food safety of your work area and complete Hygiene Handback Forms when required, ensuring to document them with your work.
* Remain contactable at all times via radio to respond to production/ management requirements.
* Manage team breaks so that there is maximum engineering coverage on the shop floor at all times. § Working 1 out of 3 Saturdays from 6am till 12 noon
Summary of Work
You are to have a proactive role to take all actions to reduce downtime and increase efficiencies. Ensure that everything has been done to attempt to resolve any issues on site, by investigating all available options to see a task through to completion i.e. searching manuals, contacting OEM’s, searching for parts, internet searches etc. Always demonstrating a “can do” attitude and positive behaviour. Communicate with the Engineering Team, forming a relationship with the team of Lead Engineers and participate in an open and honest culture, discuss any mistakes and work together to resolve them. If any issues arise, discuss them with your management and work together to find a solution. Develop changes together as a team to continually improve the site
