About the Role
Our Housing Officers provide an excellent personal service to our tenants. This role will look after a patch of properties on a variety of tenure types in the Brighton area. The Housing Officer role is varied and challenging which involves regularly visiting tenants in their homes and having overall responsibility for ensuring that any issues are raised and resolved effectively. The role is vital in assisting BHT Sussex in delivering its Housing Management function. It has responsibility for a number of key areas including the voids and lettings process, providing day to day tenancy management, Anti Social Behaviour case management and working with the Income Recovery Officers to ensure rent arrears targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide an excellent personal service to tenants in a patch of properties. This includes regularly visiting tenants in their homes and having overall responsibility for ensuring that any issues raised are resolved appropriately.
2. Ensure tenants understand and comply with the terms of their tenancy agreement, so they can sustain a successful tenancy for themselves and BHT.
3. Proactively manage anti-social behaviour cases and nuisance issues to a successful conclusion for tenants, liaising with external services where necessary.
4. Effectively manage all aspects of the voids and lettings process to ensure performance standards are met. This includes advertising voids, assessing new applicants and arranging void works.
5. Ensuring communal areas and estates are clean, safe and well maintained by liaising with external contractors, BHT’s repairs service, Heath & Safety Manager and raising repairs as required.
6. Manage a variety of tenancy matters across a variety of tenure types. This will include (but is not limited to) serving Notices and attending court hearings, mutual exchanges, succession, tenant improvements, transfer requests.
Person Specification:
To be successful in the role of Housing Officer you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of BHT Sussex. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:
1. Experience of Housing and Tenancy Management and providing an excellent personal service to tenants.
2. Experience of managing Anti Social Behaviour cases within a Social Housing setting.
3. Able to demonstrate a full understanding of the voids and letting process.
4. Knowledge of the court process and able to represent BHT Sussex when taking tenancy action.
5. Working knowledge of estate inspections and working with a repairs team.
