The Role
As a CNC Machinist at our Haslar site, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. You’ll support a team responsible for the manufacture of high quality research models, for use in one of Europe’s most sophisticated hydrodynamic research centres. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge projects and programmes and many of the industry’s most brilliant minds. You'll be involved in all aspects of high-level programming to produce one off outcomes within a dynamic environment.
Day-to-day, you will:
1. Be responsible for programming and operating our CNC milling machines (both online and offline programming)
2. Operate our EDM machine and manufacture all related tooling, undertaking a range of close tolerance assembly and hand fitting
3. Work collaboratively with a dynamic team to help, support and learn from one another, applying a problem solving approach for bespoke requirements
4. Support a range of manufacturing requirements for scaled research models, propellers and components to a very high standard within tight tolerances
5. Work with a range of materials including metal (NAB, Aluminium, Titanium and stainless steel), composites and modelling boards
This role is a full-time position based at our Gosport site 5 days a week.
Essential Experience of the CNC Machinist:
6. Demonstrable experience in a similar role or years’ experience within mechanical engineering
7. The ability to understand complex CAD models and drawings
8. Experience and knowledge in the use of CNC Milling machines and manual lathes
9. A good understanding of job-related Health & Safety
Qualifications for the CNC Machinist:
10. An apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or relevant academic background to Diploma / HND / NVQ Level 3 in a related engineering discipline
