Position: 1.0 Temporary Full Time Child & Youth Counsellor
Location: HDSB Schools
[Burlington, Halton Hills (Acton & Georgetown), Oakville, Milton]
Term: March 17 to June 27, 2025
Pay Rate: $60,413.00 - $71,593.00 per year as per the collective agreement
Schedule: 10 Months/year (September - June); 35 hours per week
The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is one of the fastest growing school districts in Canada. We are seeking a Child & Youth Counsellor to join our clinical services team.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will work in a variety of schools in one of three geographical areas or have school-based behaviour classroom or alternative education classroom responsibilities. Child and Youth Counsellors are members of a school based resource team and provide consultation to school staff on the behavioural, social and emotional needs of students.
Responsibilities Will Include
1. Providing direct service to students in class-wide, small group or individual formats
2. Engaging in the provision of professional development related to whole class, small group and individual learning
3. Participating in multi-disciplinary School Resource Team meetings
4. Provide educator consultation
5. Provide suicide risk screening
6. Deliver/facilitate professional development to educators and other Board staff as requested
Minimum Qualifications
1. A recognized Degree or Advanced Diploma in Child and Youth Care from an accredited institution or equivalent
2. A commitment to anti-oppressive and anti-racism
3. Strong interpersonal skills, and verbal communication skills
4. Flexibility, patience, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity and team-orientation
5. Competence with Google Work Suite and electronic record keeping
6. A commitment to ongoing learning
7. Excellent judgment, organizational and time management skills
8. Authentic, resilient, dependable, reliable and have the ability to problem solve effectively
9. Adherence to a high level of professional and ethical standards
10. Experience working in a fast-paced environment
11. Knowledgeable of local community resources
12. Reliable transportation and the ability to work at a variety of locations throughout the day
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working in a School Board setting
2. Current registration in the Ontario Association of Child & Youth Care (OACYC) would be an asset
3. Experience supporting individuals from a variety of lived experiences (socio-economic, cultural, etc.)
4. Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group
5. Broad understanding of and an inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the community and in schools
6. Experience and/or interest in providing skills training to post-secondary students
Appointments Are Conditional Upon
1. Provision of an original copy of a criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening dated within 6 months
2. Agreement to comply with the Boards policies, procedures and code of conduct
