Location: University of Warwick Campus, Coventry
About the Role
WMG is inviting applications for an Assistant Professorship in Modelling and Simulation of Polymer Composites. WMG is an academic department at the University of Warwick and is the leading international role model for successful collaboration between academia and the public and private sectors, driving innovation in science, technology and engineering.
WMG is looking to appoint an assistant professor with the capacity to further strengthen our research in materials & manufacturing. We are seeking a skilled candidate to develop innovative research programs focused on understanding, predicting, and optimizing the mechanical behaviour of polymer composites and related products. This role involves investigating how factors such as microstructure, processing history, and usage conditions influence performance, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates experimental, theoretical, and computational methods. A research theme of particular priority for this assistant professorship is the development and implementation of robust predictive tools for manufacturing processes and associated properties of discontinuous fibre composites in high-volume applications such as the automotive industry.
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
About You
As well as having demonstrable experience in initiating and managing research projects across international boundaries, you will be a strong communicator and have an exemplary and innovative approach to teaching and curriculum development. You will also have a visible track record of publishing and presenting your own research to a wide audience. Experience of interactions with industry would be an advantage.
You will have an honours degree (2.1 or above) in a related subject and hold a PhD in a relevant field.
We expect that over time you will develop your own research group, leading the research agenda in all computer aided engineering (CAE) aspects of polymeric based materials in a broad range of applications (including those that are not currently your own area of expertise) and that you will interface with various research groups across WMG and with their collaborative partners.
