Job Title: District Accountant
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration
Summary
The District Accountant oversees the administration of the District's Business Office functions, ensuring compliance with financial reporting and record-keeping requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintain the General Ledger, including account setup, receipts, deposits, transfers, AP/payroll warrants, journal entries.
2. Manage accounting records for federal, state and local grants, including reimbursement requests and Final Financial Reports.
3. Reconcile withholding accounts (e.g., dental, health, life, vision insurance) and track retiree health insurance payments.
4. Monitor the Operating Budget and create financial reports/forecasts upon request.
5. File quarterly unemployment wage reports, federal taxes, and coordinate Medicaid submissions.
6. Serve as point of contact for audits, including financial statements, workers' compensation, student activities, and GASB75 OPEB valuations.
7. Close the accounting system at fiscal year-end and complete the End-of-Year Report.
8. Assist in contract/procurement documentation when requested.
9. Act as backup for Payroll and Accounts Payable functions.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration.
Qualifications
1. Education & Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in municipal government, public schools, or business. DESE Licensure as a School Business Administrator and MCPPO certification are preferred but not required. Qualified applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related fields.
2. Skills: Proficiency in managerial accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and financial planning. Strong analytical skills, integrity, and knowledge of computerized record-keeping systems. Experience with Tyler Technology Budget Sense is desirable.
3. Language Skills: Ability to analyze documents, write reports, and communicate effectively in English.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
1. Regularly required to communicate effectively and work in a stationary position.
2. Occasionally required to lift/move up to 20 pounds.
Employment Terms
$70,000 – $110,000 based on experience, open to negotiation.
