An exciting opportunity has arisen within the team for a motivated Nursing associate to join our friendly, dynamic team. Our priority is to offer the best standards of holistic care for our patients recovering from injury and illness.
As a surgical hospital we provide a service in the following surgical areas
1. Major head and neck reconstructive Surgery
2. Maxillofacial/Orthognathic/Trauma
3. Plastic surgery, including major reconstruction
4. Hand Surgery
5. Ophthalmics, including complex corneal reconstruction
6. Burns for reconstructive surgery
7. Trauma
Main duties of the job
8. Carry out a full range of delegated duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient's condition and care with support from the registered nurse.
9. To work within the scope of practice of the nursing associate role to understand the level of complexity of patient care to be undertaken.
10. Maintain the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any concerns to a registered nurse.
11. Work without direct supervision once key learning outcomes of the induction or preceptorship programme have been completed.
12. Prioritise nursing care and recognise deterioration in a patient's condition and alert senior staff immediately.
13. Maintain accurate, legible and timely written and electronic records of care.
14. Use effective communication, written and verbal with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.

Clinical

19. Provide and monitor care for the patients, maintaining high standards at all times.

21. Aware of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act reporting via the appropriate system any faulty or damaged equipment or practices in the ward or department that could be detrimental to the health and safety of patients and staff.
22. Potential hazards in the workplace are recognised and dealt with within own capability or reported promptly as appropriate.
23. Occasional exposure to distressing circumstances; such as care of acute patients supporting relatives and be involved with the care of critically ill patient.
24. Occasional exposure to highly unpleasant conditions such as exposure to body fluids and wounds.

31. Promoting health and preventing ill health through participation with health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives/care givers.
32. Contribute to the daily preparation of clinical areas.
33. During the admissions and discharge phase of the patients perioperative pathway provide skilled knowledgeable assistance. Ensuring accurate documentation of observations and effectively communicate pre and post-operative information.
34. Responsible for the monitoring, documentation and handover of patients care.
35. Manage and administer medications in line with NMC Nursing Associate guidelines and Trust policies.
Education and Training
36. Successfully complete key learning outcomes from the preceptorship and or local induction and competency programme during the agreed time parameters.
37. Initiate own development within agreed parameters with the Team leader.
38. Be involved in any aspects of training that needs to be cascaded to the whole team such as moving and handling/infection control.
39. Support the induction of new staff to the department.
40. Act as supervisor for unregistered and new to role staff once appropriate training has been given.
41. Within the scope of practice as a nurse associate be prepared to extend knowledge and skills by rotating to other areas in consultation with the department lead.
42. To support and use of technology to enhance patient care within the department.
43. Be involved in the correct use of equipment and assist in the training of others as required.
