Job Summary
The Project Leader (Production) will be responsible for leading and completing projects assigned by the Production Manager pertaining to production and the department as a whole. Projects include but are not limited to purchasing, design, fabrication and sourcing of safety features and equipment with the goal of hazard elimination, 5S standardization, Ergonomic improvement, Workflow & OEE improvement. Assigned projects will be planned, implemented, and followed up on ensuring safety, quality and efficiency standards are sustained. The project leader will co-ordinate the efforts of cross-functional teams and other stakeholders throughout the life of the project.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Define, plan, track, and manage projects as assigned by identifying resources required, creating reports for senior management, and completing project work in a timely manner
2. Coordinate with Machine Shop, Product Design, Mold Design, Technical Services, and other departments to complete project objectives
3. Contact suppliers for pricing, specifications, features and samples; compare results and present findings to management
4. Design or modify parts and equipment, using CAD to build 3D models and 2D drawings
5. Liaise with vendors to acquire quotations of the most competitive prices for quality products and services
6. Conduct inspections on purchased equipment and structures, ensuring requirements have been achieved
7. Coordinate the implementation and/or installation of new equipment into production
8. Design, modify and produce new tooling as the need arises
9. Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting target deadlines
10. Communicate with needed departmental Supervisor for labour, asset additions, preventative maintenance requirements, design etc.
11. Consult with Training Specialist and facilitate training of new equipment for personnel
12. Create written procedures and work instructions, as required
13. Consult with IPEX safety or third party engineers ensuring all projects are completed to local safety codes
14. Conduct research on new methodologies for innovation
15. Schedule and conduct regular meetings for the purpose of obtaining information and communication for all involved
16. Continuous monitoring of project risk and mitigation as appropriate
17. Work with HSE to design and implement projects for the reduction of hazards and ergonomic issues
18. Impact the process, procedures, Layouts and equipment on the production floor
19. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
20. Completion of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
21. Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification an asset
22. Experience in a manufacturing environment, plastic or injection molding is preferred
23. Proven experience developing project plans, identifying and managing resources, setting goals and budget
24. Experience in 3D/2D model design using CAD/CAM software is required
25. Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Solid Works, inventor and MS office programs is required
26. Experience leading multi-functional teams an asset
27. Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing quality standards, project management principles and lean manufacturing methods and practices
28. Able to communicate clearly with all levels of the organization and external partners
29. Intermediate knowledge of machine shops and machining practices
30. Able to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
