About the Department:
The SOAS Library is one of the world's most important academic libraries for the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, attracting scholars from all over the world to consult its holdings and further their research.
Special Collections is responsible for managing the Library’s archive, manuscript, and rare book holdings, including acquiring, cataloguing, and preserving the collections. The Special Collections team also manages a service point providing access to the collections.
About the Role
Reporting to the Curator of Rare Books & Manuscripts, the post holder will assess, refine and enhance existing manuscripts metadata in preparation for ingest into the new archives management system, Epexio. The post holder will work with various data formats, including MARC, TEI-XML, and XLSX, as well as manipulating OCR generated text from scanned resources to ensure consistent and comprehensive metadata. This work will also enrich existing catalogue records with additional information on extent, physical descriptions, provenance, and bibliographic details.
