The Project Engineer will lead the development and implementation of Capital Projects and provide technical & engineering support on the Marlbrook site (and across the UK chocolate network). Responsibilities include investigation, design, contractor management, and engineering project management (including cost and programme management). Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements during project development, execution, commissioning, and handover to production. Act as project leader and manage other department members or contract staff (e.g., process / mechanical / electrical / controls) as part of the project team, working closely with the Business Development Manager and Site Leadership Team to ensure engineering solutions support business requirements and align with the long-term site development plan.
This role requires a broad range of specialist project management and engineering skills. The role holder will directly manage several projects with values up to £1MM.
How you will contribute
1. Develop designs for new NPD and factory development projects, collaborating closely with Manufacturing and BD&E as needed.
2. Create detailed engineering designs and specifications for authorized Capital projects to meet safety, quality, and hygiene requirements at optimum output and efficiency, and lowest cost.
3. Manage site assets in terms of verification & write-off with a clear change control process.
4. Challenge existing practices, methods, and technology to proactively seek opportunities to improve factory productivity, safety, and quality.
5. Maintain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the crumb manufacturing process.
6. Provide technical & engineering input to drive the site’s commercial and operational performance objectives.
7. Prepare and review tender packages, evaluate tender returns, conduct peer reviews, and negotiate commercial terms.
8. Recommend solutions to problems to reduce operating costs, improve product quality, and enhance safety performance.
9. Manage project costs using ERP tools (SAP and Coupa) and forecast capital spend.
10. Provide coaching, development & support to other members of the BD&E team and factory-based technical personnel.
11. Manage contractors to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards with minimal disruption to the process.
12. Support and provide expertise in the application of GMP and Sanitary design standards across sites, developing and sharing best practices across the MEU network.
13. Collaborate with Cluster, Regional, and global teams to align Capital plans across the Mondelēz group.
What you will bring
A desire to drive your future and accelerate your career, along with the following experience and knowledge:
1. Ability to motivate and develop onsite personnel and communicate across a broad range of management levels and functional areas.
2. Ability to organize your own time and manage your agenda around site priorities.
3. A minimum of 5 – 10 years’ experience in a high-volume manufacturing industry, preferably food, beverages, or pharmaceuticals.
4. Significant experience in the identification and delivery of Capital projects up to a value of £1MM.
5. Demonstrated experience in project delivery in high-volume manufacturing environments.
6. Computer skills – spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), scheduling (MS Project), word processing (Microsoft Word), graphics (PowerPoint), SAP, PLC Software (Rockwell preferable) & SCADA screens.
7. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Qualification Requirements
1. BEng/MEng in Engineering.
2. Chartered status preferred.
3. APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent preferred.
