Bis is currently recruiting for a Safety and Sustainability Advisor to join our Safety and Sustainability team at our Tomago Office in NSW. Reporting to our National Safety and Sustainability Manager, this role is responsible for providing advice and support to key stakeholders in Health, Safety and Environmental management systems to our Tomago Facility and Field Services Division in NSW/QLD.
The Safety and Sustainability Advisor will also be tasked with guiding the Underground Coal Services Operations and Field Services Division in achieving their goals without compromising the Health and Safety of Bis employees or equipment as well as the environment. It is the responsibility of the Senior Safety and Sustainability Advisor to assist Bis in maintaining compliance with internal and external Safety and Sustainability requirements, whilst continuously improving and enhancing a Zero Harm culture to enable Bis to eliminate or otherwise control risks within the business.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
1. Provide advice, guidance and support to operational management on statutory safety requirements including best practices within Safety and Sustainability.
2. Actively promote and embed a positive safety culture through demonstrated safety leadership practices and a commitment to Zero Harm.
3. Coach operations personnel in the application of observation processors and mentor new frontline leaders on Safety and Sustainability incident management expectations.
4. Facilitate incident investigations and draft incident notifications in accordance with Bis requirements.
5. Assist with the development and maintenance of Safety and Sustainability management plans for operations that comply with Bis, legislative and client requirements.
6. Guide the business in achieving its goals without compromising safety or health and encourage at all times a positive and pro-active approach to safety throughout the Group’s operations.
7. Develop and maintain return to work plans in consultation with the Bis Workers Compensation and Injury Management Team.
8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a broad team of stakeholders and develop and maintain strong working relationships.
The successful applicant will possess:
1. Diploma or Bachelor Qualification in Workplace Health and Safety.
2. Experience as a Return-to-Work Coordinator and Workers Compensation issues management.
3. Recognised training and significant experience with conducting ICAM investigations, injury investigations.
4. High level leadership skills - including the ability to coach, mentor, motivate and influence.
5. High level of initiative and problem-solving skills.
6. Excellent organization skills, with the ability to manage fluctuating workloads, multiple projects and conflicting priorities to achieve competing deadlines.
7. Excellent communication skills – Interpersonal, written and verbal.
8. Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
