Job Summary
Under the direction of the Camp Manager, assists in the maintenance and repair of the camp’s buildings, grounds, equipment and other facilities consistent with the mission and established policies and procedures of the camp.
Essential Functions
1. Reports to Camp Manager for assignments and work schedule.
2. Meets with Program Director daily to ensure assigned meeting spaces are set up and cleaned properly.
3. Ensures that Camp Maintenance has needed materials to continue work until completed.
4. Trains and monitors the activity of Camp Maintenance.
5. Keeps the Camp Maintenance crew on task and ensures they follow through with all assigned duties.
6. Advises Camp Manager of completed duties and other needed work assignments.
7. Reports to Camp Manager any problems with Camp Maintenance.
8. Maintains camp grounds by operating necessary grounds care equipment such as mower, tractor, chain saws, etc., in a safe and efficient manner.
9. Identifies hazards found on camp grounds and makes necessary changes.
10. Ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards.
11. Locks and secures all equipment when not in use.
12. Performs janitorial and general maintenance duties in designated buildings and areas (sweep, scrub, wax floors, wash windows and screens, pressure wash, etc.).
13. Disposes of trash and waste from camp facilities and camp ground daily.
14. Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
15. Assists with the set-up, cleaning, and re-setting of meeting areas and rooms as needed.
16. Assists with camper luggage on opening and closing days.
17. Operates a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials.
18. Takes water to water areas as assigned.
19. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
20. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
21. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
22. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to work on a team and relate well with others.
2. Self-starter and organizer.
3. Ability to accept guidance, direction, and supervision.
4. Proficiency in the safe and proper use of power equipment and tools, heavy and light machinery, and building materials.
5. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff.
6. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children.
7. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
8. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
9. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
10. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
11. Ability to work with children outdoors in various conditions.
12. Ability to meet attendance requirements.
13. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
14. Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety.
Education and Experience
Two years’ experience in facility and site maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications
Valid and Current Driver’s License
CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Some physical requirements of the Camp Head Maintenance Worker position include endurance, climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information
Camp Staff Orientation will be held 6/9/2025 – 6/15/2025 and participation is required.
The 2025 Summer Camp program will be held 6/16/2025-7/19/2025. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
