Salary: £55,596 to £69,496 per annum (plus Employee Healthcare)

Hours: 35 per week
About the role:
As Legal Counsel (Property), you will provide high-quality legal advice aligned to a region or regions within Network Rail. You will manage corporate legal risk and deliver legal services, particularly in real estate and property litigation law. You will support the business in achieving strategic priorities and work closely with colleagues across various business areas.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Support the Head of Legal (Regions) on complex and high-value legal matters, focusing on real estate and property litigation.
2. Deliver business-focused legal advice to minimize corporate legal risk.
3. Assist in developing national and regional company policies and processes.
4. Participate in cross-regional project teams to advise on legal aspects.
5. Instruct and supervise external lawyers as necessary.
6. Provide regular updates to the Head of Legal (Regions).
7. Contribute to a national community of practice in property law.
8. Participate in executive meetings and provide relevant reports.
Minimum Requirements:
Essential:
1. Qualified solicitor or barrister with previous experience.
2. Property legal specialist.
3. Good private practice experience.
4. In-house experience (including secondments).
5. Ability to identify and minimize corporate legal risk.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Proactive and commercially minded.
8. Creative problem solver with a can-do attitude.
9. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
Desirable:
1. Experience in a regulated or public sector environment.
2. Experience with planning processes, particularly regarding statutory powers for compulsory acquisition.
