Job Summary
We are seeking a Clinical Outcomes Support Officer, looking for a stimulating and purposeful position, to become a key member of the Proton Beam Therapy Clinical Outcomes Unit at The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder must have a good secondary level of education to A Level standard, NVQ level 4 qualification or equivalent knowledge gained through experience. The post holder should also have experience in an information role involving the querying of data and the ability to work logically with great attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry. The post holder must also have good interpersonal and communication skills, be familiar with the use of Microsoft Office software, and be able to communicate effectively with clinicians, managers, statisticians, analysts and other healthcare professionals. This is a permanent position, with the option to work a mixture of onsite at The Christie or from home.
Main Duties of the Job
* Working closely with clinical staff to facilitate the timely and accurate delivery of all clinical information requirements. Ensure monitoring tasks are completed and records are kept of any issues, escalating as appropriate.
* Work closely with Research Radiographers and the ECIP team to collect data for Evaluative Commissioning in Protons studies (ECIPs) and the National Proton Registry.
* Ensure accurate transcription of paper Case Report Forms (CRFs) into appropriate electronic data capture systems.
* Support research staff to chase data returns from referring centres/local care providers as required.
* Ensure the efficient and accurate collection of clinical data relating to patients within the defined specialty, including data input and manipulation.
* To facilitate the effective use of data within the scope of the role to support the objectives of the service, assisting in the delivery of outcomes reports and data integrity.
* To complete abstraction and data quality checks on clinical information and web form extracts, paying attention to detail and the accuracy of data.
* To apply a basic understanding of specialty-specific data, applying attention to detail, to ensure quality and efficiency of processes.
* Able to confidently converse with local, external and international colleagues and senior managers with a basic understanding of technical and clinical terms used.
* Apply quality control procedures to check and report the results of outputs ensuring only accurate information is delivered to the clinical stakeholders.
* Using experience and clinical knowledge to review the accuracy and quality of recorded data, reporting errors and error themes regularly.
* Data entry and data quality checks involving the use of web-based applications, databases and Microsoft Office software including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook. The post holder will have the ability to learn and use, with minimal supervision, new software packages and systems in order to perform daily, and ad hoc tasks as required.
* Ensure the provision of a first point of contact within the Proton Clinical Outcomes Unit for all queries and requests ensuring they are logged and tracked, including the running of the team's shared inbox.
* To ensure significant issues affecting the outputs and quality of the department are escalated to the line manager in a timely manner.
* To represent the Proton Clinical Outcomes Unit/National Proton Registry and ECIP team as appropriate in meetings, reporting back on progress and to deputise for their line manager as appropriate.
* On occasion the post holder may be required to work unsociable hours to support and/or enable the delivery of key programs or projects.
