Therapy Assistant Practitioner - Neurorehabilitation

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4, Therapy Assistant Practitioner to become part of the expansion and development of the therapy services provision to this highly regarded Intermediate Neurorehabilitation unit in Stockport.
The Devonshire unit is a 19-bedded unit for the care of post-acute neuro patients requiring ongoing community-based in-patient neurorehabilitation.
This Band 4 role will support the wider therapy team (Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists) to provide aspects of assessment, goal setting, rehabilitation, and discharge planning using a 24-hour rehabilitation approach. They will also be expected to support the development and delivery of activities and groups which support increased access/intensity of rehabilitation.
The successful candidate will be well supported by the wider Therapy team and have ongoing access to training and opportunities for personal development.
Applications from candidates with appropriate NHS and Neuro Rehabilitation experience who can demonstrate that they are working towards fulfilment of the essential requirements may be considered for a development post opportunity (i.e., band 3 - 4 over a specified time frame).
Main duties of the job
* To assist the delivery of high quality, evidenced based neurorehabilitation to the caseload of the Devonshire INRU.
* To work as an integral member of the therapy team supporting assessment, therapy interventions, education, and discharge planning.
* To use technical and creative skills in the provision of rehabilitative activities for patients in 1:1 sessions and therapy groups and be responsible for evaluating and amending treatment programmes within your scope of practice and with guidance from the therapy team (Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational therapists, and Physiotherapists).
* To promote a 24-hour rehab approach on the unit through initiatives like group development, environment review, and resource development.
* To support induction, core training, and clinical supervision to a small number of therapy assistants/rehab support workers ensuring a high quality, efficient and coordinated approach to care.
* To take a lead in identified audits, quality improvement projects and resource management projects for the therapy service with supervision from senior therapists.
* To work flexibly across all disciplines to provide holistic care and service needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Evidence of attainment or progress towards essential qualifications- i.e. Relevant health and / or social care qualification at NVQ Level 3 or above.
* Relevant health and / or social care qualification at NVQ Level 4 or above.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Experience working as a therapy assistant or personal trainer.
* Previous experience in supporting patients with rehab individually or in a group setting.
* Good understanding and experience of working with clients with a variety of physical, cognitive and communication impairment.
* Well-developed communication skills with experience of communicating with patients/clients with barriers to communication.
* NHS Experience.
* Previous employment working in a health care setting.
* Previous experience working with patients with neuro impairment.
* Good understanding of mental health issues.
Skills & Abilities
* Good organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Able to deal with sensitive and emotional situations.
* Flexibility.
* Willingness to work across sites to support MCCN Neuro Rehab service.
* Driving Licence.
