Position Overview
The position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs to minimize equipment failures and optimize maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and maintenance costs. These include, but are not limited to; Asset Criticality, Failure Reduction, Maintenance Strategy Reviews, Reliability & Maintenance Analysis & Root Cause Analysis across the European network of Bakelite Synthetics sites. The Reliability Engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing specific guidance on maintenance and reliability matters and supporting closure of findings and actions across the region. The position is part of the engineering team and the postholder collaborates to set and meet goals, objectives, and performance metrics with the other groups in the operations organization, including site leaders, maintenance/engineering managers & representatives.
Job Description
1. Lead and ensure execution of the maintenance & reliability initiatives at designated sites and driving improvements with the use of self-assessments, KPI’s and performance scorecards.
2. Lead and facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) sessions, failure modes effect analysis (FMEA) workshops, and progress tracking meetings.
3. Work closely with site teams to enhance thought processes and application of the tools.
4. Act as SME of Problem Solving tools of A3 thinking, 3C’s, 5 why’s, fishbone, cause and effect, introducing these tools to site and providing support/guidance when requested.
5. Oversee the program and identification of bad actors (failure reduction, loss elimination and mechanical integrity) and initiate reliability projects for each item.
6. Lead the reliability focus at each site and ensure progress is made through to the execution of solutions.
7. Provide analysis of SAP data and information for notifications, work orders and maintenance plans/items.
8. Further assess functional location structures, equipment numbers and materials to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
9. Generate monthly KPI’s and report trends, together with maintenance cost trends vs. budget with recommendations and actions for improvement.
10. Provide guidance and expertise on countermeasure/solutions that could prevent or detect the causes established from investigations and daily simple problems arising.
11. Oversee the possible solutions through investigations with vendors of design, capabilities, restrictions/limitations, material of construction, specification, costs, etc.
12. Monitor self-assessment activities and KPI’s to achieve the goals set at the beginning of each year, whilst auditing the outcome at the end of the year and reviewing evidence provided from site or directly from SAP.
13. Analyse existing planned maintenance tasks and identify changes/reductions that can be implemented to reduce overall maintenance costs and help to standardize processes across the designated sites.
14. Identify predictive maintenance techniques that can be applied to increase plant availability and deploy them where cost-beneficial.
15. Use vibration monitoring, temperature tracking, oil quality, air pressure monitoring, etc.
16. Work with the procurement organization to define standard equipment that can be procured for common duties across the European plants during projects or replacement of existing assets, along with spares.
Education & Skill Requirements
University degree qualified in an engineering discipline. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective communication with others for whom English is their second language. Facilitation and implementation of various root cause analysis techniques. Ability to work within a matrixed organisation and remotely with site teams.
Experience in:
* Managing reliability and/or maintenance programs within the chemical industry or other process industries with a minimum of 5 years.
* SAP Plant Maintenance functionality and relevant transactions for asset management (notifications, orders, maintenance plans/items, documents, functional locations, equipment numbers, materials, etc).
* ISO55000 Asset Management Standard (previously PAS 55).
