East Sussex County Council has an exciting opportunity for a new role to initiate the County Council’s Digital Preservation Strategy, managing a two-year project to scope the digital preservation needs and solutions for all departments, including Records Management, the County Archives, and Record Office.
The Digital Preservation Project Officer will work closely with colleagues from across ESCC on the Digital Preservation Strategy project. The purpose of this project is to identify the digital preservation needs and recommend possible solutions for the storage and accessibility of electronic records, ultimately working towards the implementation of an up-to-date and clear Digital Preservation Strategy across all ESCC departments.
This role will manage the project, conducting an audit of current and expected digital content and solutions currently in use, and complete an options analysis, making recommendations for digital preservation solutions. This role will coordinate the staff resource input from all departments and prepare reports, working with the project team and reporting to the project board.
The Digital Preservation Project Officer will work closely with the IT, Archive, and Records Management services to develop workflows for digital preservation and access to all ESCC records, including the collections of East Sussex and Brighton and Hove Record Office.
The successful candidate must have problem-solving skills, the ability to work well as part of a team, and excellent communication.
The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:
1. Excellent project management skills and experience.
2. In-depth understanding of digital preservation principles and techniques, including up-to-date knowledge of relevant tools, methodologies, and standards.
3. A specialist knowledge of a range of IT solutions and technical experience of dealing with digital records, their preservation, and management.
4. Understanding and experience of archives and/or information management standards and practices.
5. Excellent communication skills, and experience explaining complex technical topics compellingly to diverse and non-specialist audiences.
