An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical Engineering Technician to join a small friendly team based at Furness General Hospital.
The department is responsible for the commissioning, service and maintenance of a wide range of medical devices used within all areas of clinical care including ventilation, endoscopy, neonatal, and theatre-based medical equipment.
Main Duties of the Job
1. A good knowledge of electro-mechanical engineering theory.
2. A logical approach to fault finding on complex electro-mechanical medical equipment.
3. Proficient IT skills in the use of a database system for maintenance recording and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
4. Knowledge of general medical equipment and medical terminology is desirable but not essential.
5. The ability to communicate effectively and build lasting relationships with all members of staff, visitors, and suppliers.
6. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise day-to-day workload.
About Us
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life threatening conditions.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Professional electronics knowledge acquired through HND in electronics, medical engineering, or equivalent with additional practical knowledge gained through technical training and experience.
* Degree level qualification in either Medical device maintenance or electrical and electronic engineering. Physiology training to cover a range of equipment.
Experience
* Analysis and diagnosing of faults in complex electronic/mechanical equipment. Experience of safe operating systems used in the maintenance and repair of complex electronic equipment.
* Self-management, workload planning, routine maintenance, prioritising breakdown maintenance, and medical device calibration and maintenance.
Skills, Ability, and Knowledge
* Effective verbal and written communication with colleagues at all levels of the organisation and with external agencies and industry.
* Highly developed skills: manual dexterity, co-ordination, and sensory skills for the use of precision tools and materials in maintaining delicate equipment.
* Knowledge and understanding of Health Service issues and experience of working within the scope of MHRA Managing Medical Devices (April 2015).
Personal Qualities
* Ability to travel as required.
