Duty Manager
The Avenue Cinema, Belfast
The Avenue Cinema, a fully licensed luxury cinema experience in the heart of Belfast, is seeking to fill a Duty Manager position.
The main role of the Duty Manager will be to oversee the smooth day-to-day running of Cinema and F&B operations at The Avenue as well as supporting the General Manager. The Avenue is set in a fast-paced, high-standard working environment, and the successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering in a similar environment. Strong attention to detail and standards of service will be paramount, as they will be a figurehead to lead by example, assess and surpass customer expectations, whilst helping to grow the business and our offering as we elevate this exciting experience for all guests.
You will work closely across all departments, food, beverage, and cinema. The Avenue boasts strong detailed operating procedures to ensure a successful and efficient business model. The successful candidate will have an integral role in helping to create a fun, professional, and safe place to work whilst meeting and surpassing the needs of every customer they greet.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail.
2. Working alongside and in the absence of the General Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the site and manage up to 70 staff.
3. Dealing one-to-one with customer enquiries or issues, assessing, and reporting up the line to senior management wherever necessary.
4. Ensuring that customer focus and service is at the forefront of every staff member’s work ethic, whilst helping to maintain a professional, fun, and friendly workspace.
5. Manage the placement and activities of the floor team, ensuring a high level of service is provided and that screen turnarounds are fulfilled swiftly and correctly.
6. To oversee the correct use of all till and ordering systems, that Challenge 25 policy is followed and that cinema & licensing guidelines are adhered to by everyone.
7. To ensure that the team follows correct guidelines on uniform wear and that high standards of personal grooming and hygiene are met by all.
8. To set or follow shift pre-opening plans for placement and duties of staff, observing shift timings and breaks etc. in line with company procedures.
9. Ensure opening/closing procedures are adhered to.
10. Ensure all elements of Health and Safety, Fire Safety, and Cinema Licensing are implemented and adhered to.
11. Staff recruitment and development including training and reviews.
12. Ensuring all HR policies and guidelines are implemented and adhered to.
13. Management and control of all known KPI.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To protect and enhance the brand as an industry-leading standard and bring forward ideas to drive and improve the business.
2. To take a proactive approach to the customer journey with a focus on look, feel, wait times, and customer expectations.
3. To carry out daily opening and closing stock counts, inputting onto the house system and managing/reporting any discrepancies or issues.
4. To work across the different departments of kitchen, front and back of house. Ensure strong departmental communication and following of systems.
5. Comply with management procedures and coach staff on the importance of the correct use of procedures.
6. To act as a member of the management team, with keyholder, cash-handling, staffing, customer interaction, and site security responsibilities.
7. Comply with all H&S legislation and local council regulations to protect the cinema licence.
8. Following company guidelines and training to manage cinema scheduling and marketing of information correctly to the public.
9. Assisting with the operation of the projectors and sound for screens, being mindful of show start times and cost-effective practices.
10. To protect equipment and assets of the site, creating a safe and structured workplace whilst being sympathetic to the skills and strengths of fellow employees.
11. To assist with recruitment, training, and development of staff.
12. Management of stock to include ordering and inventory.
13. Any other tasks and/or duties as directed by senior management.
Essential Criteria:
1. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in cinema, bar, or restaurant setting.
2. Experience in food service with complete understanding of basic food safety and allergens.
3. Experienced in dealing with front of house systems for a contemporary POS system.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
5. You will have a strong understanding of business factors within a busy hospitality venue to include rota development, staff management, financial forecasting and impacts, budgeting and the importance of forward planning and preparation.
6. Desire to train and lead a team to deliver industry-leading standards.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining a focus on customer service and standards.
8. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think proactively to get ahead of potential problems or issues.
9. A strong working knowledge of coffee, teas, wines, beers, and spirits.
10. A strong ability to manage a large team under pressure.
11. Experience in food service and complete understanding of food allergens.
12. Ability to work productively alone.
13. You are an effective and reliable team member.
14. Fully flexible to work days, evenings, and weekend shifts.
15. Flexible to work during holiday periods.

Pay: £27,000.00 per year
