William Lamb was founded in 1887, its headquarters is on the original site in Wakefield. Importing approximately 6 million pairs of licensed, branded and unbranded footwear and accessories, William Lamb supplies the UK and International markets with licensed footwear and accessories.
The company has a busy community of designers and is now looking to appoint an additional Designer to support the growing licensed business.
Reporting to the Design manager, this role will be working with key accounts and large UK online businesses.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Designer
Responsible for designing character licensed footwear and accessories for key customers, this role is ideally suited to a junior designer with several years of design experience, looking for the next step up. Knowledge and experience of footwear design is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design footwear own-branded and character to a brief defined with/between client and WLG.
* Ensure that the products are specified appropriately to achieve required cost price and margins.
* Ensure all materials and components meet the required standards of WLG and the customer in terms of quality and product assurance.
* Conduct face-to-face meetings, liaise with customers to manage customer relationships through and beyond the development process.
* Research the market, understand trends and develop new ideas and concepts to present to customers.
* Work with factories and sourcing teams to develop products in the most appropriate sources.
* Travel to sources to develop and refine products and costings if required.
* Work well with colleagues to create a positive and creative teamwork ethic.
Skills & Experience
* A designer with several years of experience in the design and development of character footwear. Some knowledge of accessories and bags would be advantageous.
* Experience of designing and developing to a variety of footwear constructions and materials.
* Experience of working with overseas sources and different customers.
* Excellent use of design software such as Photoshop / Illustrator. Also experience in the use of Excel / Word.
* Good presentational skills.
* Excellent written communication skills.
* Methodical and organised, attention to detail.
This is a challenging, fast-paced role. The ideal candidate will be a creative and organised individual, able to manage a varied and sometimes time-pressured workload. There is frequent and daily interaction with customers and internal colleagues.
The position is office-based, Monday-Friday with a flexible work policy in place including occasional homeworking as required.
