About the role
The Financial Process & Controls Team performs a crucial role within the business, partnering with and advising both finance and non-finance colleagues to drive robust processes and controls around financial reporting, finance systems, process changes, policies and compliance and more.
The team is critical in ensuring we maintain a robust control environment around our financial reporting, including supporting the business to ensure we meet the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley (‘SOX’) Act.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, Financial Process and Controls, you will gain a breadth of experience, covering a number of businesses within the wider WBA Group, including Boots UK, Boots ROI, Boots Opticians, No7. Beauty Company, Liz Earle, and other international businesses including our BPO in India.
Key responsibilities:
* Support the Finance Manager with the review and documentation of end-to-end process and controls across the Group, escalating potential issues timely and effectively
* Partnering with Finance colleagues to support with all quarterly compliance reporting
* Management and ownership of Delegation of Authority process across the wider Boots Group
* Work closely with our Internal and external auditors to support with the delivery of the statutory UK and US audits and annual SOX programme
* Alongside the Finance Manager, support the business and wider Finance team with the timely remediation of any controls issues and performance of re-testing
* Drive process improvement and best practice by focusing on simplification and getting things right first time
* Involvement in ad-hoc assurance projects and other internal audit or assurance activities
* Proactively highlight and evaluate controls issues, or areas of risk, escalating
What you’ll need to have
* Finance background, either by study, qualification or experience
* Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
* Ability to effectively manage own workload, knowing when to request additional support
* Curiosity and tenacity with the ability to identify issues within large amounts of information or data
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to non-finance colleagues
* Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and develop trust
* Appreciation of external and internal audit processes
It would be great if you also have
* Previous experience in external audit, internal audit, risk assessment, or documentation of processes and controls
* Microsoft Visio an advantage
* Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements and internal control frameworks
* Experience working with large or complex organisations
* Studying for a professional accountancy qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, IIA/CIA), or open to furthering professional education
