The Role
The Director of International Migration and Border Security will lead our delivery of our partnerships with other countries to support a secure border, help tackle irregular migration and our wider Migration and Border objectives. They will oversee the ongoing development and delivery of our international strategy to address the drivers of irregular migration and ensure that those without the right to be in the UK can be returned effectively. In doing so they will ensure the right prioritisation and resourcing to deliver.
The role will work alongside the Director for Organised Immigration Taskforces and policy directors to engage with international partners, multilateral organisations, HMG partners overseas, and across Government to deliver a step change in our international co-operation.
The Director will report jointly to the Border Security Commander and the Director General Migration and Borders and will be a member of both senior leadership teams.

The Job Holder will be expected to:
* Lead on engagement with overseas governments on UK legal and irregular migration policy, including specific negotiations on a country basis.
* Demonstrate leadership on international migration with other departments across Government to ensure that migration interests are appropriately reflected in wider government efforts including in relation to foreign and development policy (with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office).
* Secure an ambitious programme of returns agreements with source and transit countries, or operational improvements to existing cooperation.
* Be a credible interlocutor focused on migration outcomes including Border Security in countries where we must focus impact on organised immigration crime.
* Drive high tempo governance and metric based working to deliver the international agenda aligned to the Home Secretary’s ambition.
* This role will include overseas travel to progress key partnerships and negotiations with other countries.
