The role will be responsible for improving patient experience and health inequalities within local maternity services. They will contribute at all levels across the service in understanding what we do well and what we can improve through the challenges faced for those who fall under the nine protected characteristics of The Equality Act 2010.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will ensure:
1. That local maternity services meet the needs of their local populations, paying particular attention to health inequalities. This includes facilitating informed decision-making, for example choice of pain relief in labour where we know there are inequalities, ensuring access to interpreter services, and adhering to the Accessible Information Standard in maternity and neonatal settings.
2. The collection and disaggregation of local data and feedback by population groups to monitor differences in outcomes and experiences for women and babies from different backgrounds.
3. That this data is used to provide targeted support and implement local plans to reduce inequalities in experience and outcomes.
4. The involvement of service users in quality, governance, and co-production when designing and planning delivery of maternity and neonatal services.

Job description
Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions. Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust's 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

* Proven experience as a midwife and able to articulate the functions of maternity services.
* Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement
* Up to date and evidence-based knowledge of current professional issues related to marginalised women and health inequalities
* Awareness and understanding of MBRRACE-UK report findings related to the global majority, LGBTQ+ and marginalised service users
* An understanding of audit and research methodologies.
* In-depth understanding of the relevance of cultural awareness, cultural competency and unconscious bias

* Good counselling skills or willing to undertake training.
