Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Science Technician to join our vibrant science department in a secondary school in Manchester. The ideal candidate will support the delivery of engaging and effective science lessons by ensuring that resources, equipment, and laboratories are well-prepared, safe, and effectively maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preparation of Resources and Equipment:
o Set up and dismantle equipment and materials for practical science lessons in biology, chemistry, and physics.
o Prepare chemical solutions, specimens, and other teaching aids in accordance with lesson plans.
2. Health and Safety Compliance:
o Ensure all laboratory activities comply with health and safety regulations, including CLEAPSS guidelines.
o Conduct routine safety checks on equipment and assist in maintaining up-to-date risk assessments.
o Safely dispose of hazardous materials and waste.
3. Laboratory Maintenance:
o Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in laboratories, prep rooms, and storage areas.
o Organize and restock science materials, chemicals, and consumables.
o Perform basic maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
4. Supporting Teaching Staff:
o Assist teachers during practical lessons when needed.
o Provide technical advice and guidance to teaching staff on the safe and effective use of equipment.
5. Administrative Duties:
o Keep accurate records of stock, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules.
o Assist with ordering supplies and managing the department's inventory.
