A special educational needs school in Calderdale are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil with complex Autism on a one to one basis from the new academic year. The role is 32.5 hours per week, term time only on a temp to perm basis after 12 week qualifying period.
Due to the nature of our roles, candidates must be a UK Resident residing within the local area. Please note we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.
The school caters for pupils aged 7 - 16 years with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs) ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions) and other complex needs.
What will you do in the role?
- Provide calming and nurturing support for learners, encouraging their independence and rewarding progression milestones.
- Attend to the pupil's personal needs, implement related personal programmes, and support pupils who may have complex medical needs.
- To support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning
The role of Learning Support Assistant will involve working on a 1:1 and small group basis, to support and provide guidance to encourage their engagement in learning within their classroom environment as well as their personal and social development during socialising periods through break and lunch times. The ideal candidate for this role will be resilient, caring and nurturing, with a desire to make a positive impact to the education journey for children and young people.
What skills do you need to have?
- Ability to relate well to pupils and young adults with additional needs, experience of working with SEN would be advantageous, personal experience is hugely relevant, but a character fit is most important.
- Minimum Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools or equivalent.
- Have experience in an education or health care setting, and be able to liaise with a large, multi-disciplinary team. Personal experience is relevant.
- Ideally have a valid Team Teach certificate - if not, you can do your training through us!
- Be comfortable with personal care and support feeding due to the complexity of pupil needs.
- Be resilient, not easily offended and have the skills to de-escalate sometimes challenging situations.
- Be able to remain calm under pressure.
- Be confident, passionate, and highly motivated.
- Be vigilant in identifying safeguarding concerns and following protocol.
