Position: SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant

An SEMH School based in Wolverhampton is looking for a HLTA to join the school on a permanent basis in September 2024. The school provides a tailored education for up to 80 pupils aged 5-19 with ASC/SEMH needs. The creative and personalized curriculum ensures the best opportunities for our pupils to succeed. The Role:
1. Support the growth of the school and the Teaching Assistant team, mentoring newly appointed staff.
2. Have a firm knowledge of ASC practice and support its delivery across the school.
3. Assist the Class Teacher and SENCO with day-to-day classroom activities and teach whole classes, groups, and individual lessons.
4. Take the lead in the absence of a Class Teacher, assessing, recording, and reporting on student development, progress, and attainment.
5. Understand and implement the Class Teacher’s curriculum plans, preparing and delivering teaching and learning activities.
6. Support care needs and positive behaviour management tailored to individual children.
7. Establish warm, supportive relationships with pupils, promoting independence and personal development.
8. Maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
9. Be flexible and willing to assist wherever required in the SEN environment.
Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will likely demonstrate:
1. A Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification (desirable) or willingness to complete.
2. Full UK driving licence and access to a car (desirable).
3. GCSE pass at grade C (or 4 in the new system) in English and Maths.
4. Relevant experience with SEN or SEMH/ASD pupils.
5. Understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
6. Experience managing various behavioural approaches, including challenging behaviours.
7. Adaptability and a child-first approach, treating each pupil as an individual.
8. Positivity and creativity in meeting pupils’ individual needs.
