Job Specification: Quantity Surveyor (PQS)
Location: Bolton Office (Flexible Work Options Available)
Salary Range: £40,000 - £60,000 per annum (Negotiable based on experience)

Our client is a well-established main contractor with a strong presence in the North West. The company is known for delivering high-quality projects across a wide range of sectors, including refurbishments, new builds, and decarbonisation schemes. The company operates across key frameworks with prestigious clients such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Manchester City Council, and Blue Light Services.
As a growing business, they are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor (PQS) to join their team in Bolton. The role will be integral in supporting a variety of exciting projects, from £30K to £10M, across multiple sectors, including education, commercial, and public sector schemes.
Role Overview:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantity surveying, particularly within the public sector and refurbishment sectors. The role will involve working across a range of projects, from early-stage estimates through to final account. You will be joining a team with plenty of senior support and a collaborative working environment. With a mix of office, site, and work-from-home flexibility, the company is keen to support a healthy work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee all aspects of cost management for projects from inception to completion.
Prepare budgets and project cost reports.
Provide contractual advice and support throughout the project lifecycle.
Manage the procurement process, including subcontractor agreements and tenders.
Ensure projects are completed within budget, on time, and to the required standards.
Collaborate closely with project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure effective cost control and risk management.
Contribute to the negotiation of final accounts and project variations.
Maintain and manage relationships with both internal stakeholders and external clients.
Monitor project progress and provide reports on cost forecasting, cash flow, and value engineering.
Occasionally visit project sites, primarily within the North West (Manchester, Lancashire, Crewe to Carlisle).
Skills & Experience:
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor (PQS) within a main contractor or consultancy.
Strong knowledge of cost management, contract administration, and commercial aspects of construction.
Experience working on refurbishment, new build, and decarbonisation projects is desirable.
Experience with public sector clients such as the DWP, Manchester City Council, or Blue Light Services would be an advantage.
Ability to work across a wide range of projects with values ranging from £30K to £10M.
Experience working on frameworks and knowledge of procurement processes.
Strong IT skills, with proficiency in MS Office and Quantity Surveying software (e.g., CostX, BuildSoft, or similar).
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Full UK driving license (due to site visits across the North West).
Working Hours & Flexibility:
Full-time, office-based with some flexibility to work from home as required.
Flexibility offered for school run or personal commitments.
Travel to sites across the North.
