Are you a highly motivated individual looking to start or expand your aquaculture career? We are currently looking to employ a Deckhand to work onboard our support vessel. The vessel will provide valuable service at our newly approved Seawater site at North Kilbrannan. The role is challenging, but ultimately very rewarding and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career progression opportunities.
If you are ambitious, motivated, and want to work with a like-minded team, then this is the role for you. This post is offered on a full time permanent basis. The successful candidate will be required to work on a two week on / two week off shift rotation, full accommodation and galley facilities on board.
About the job
The role is a crucial part of the operations process and ensures that the best management of our salmon is undertaken. We need our Deckhands to strive for continuous improvement and deliver on all aspects of farm work to keep the team on track and performing well. The job includes, but it not limited to:
* Maintaining the vessel to a high standard, ensuring full compliance at all times to workboat code and certification
* Perform any combination of duties aboard the vessel including lookout, steering and engine-room watches.
* Ensuring nets on site are cleaned and maintained to a high standard
* Maintaining a net cleaning routine
* Inspection and maintenance of equipment and facilities around the farm
* Monitoring and maintaining fish health, welfare and bio-security
* Boat handling around the farm
* Ensuring bio-security records are kept up-to-date
* Other general farm duties
Ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job. The successful candidate will have:
* RYA Commercial Endorsement or STCW certification
* IOSH Managing Safely Certification
* Net washing experience
* ML5 or ENG1 medical
* Work flexibly to meet the demands of the job
* Positive approach to this type of work
* Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? We can help you with the cost of lessons.
