Main duties of the job
Are you passionate about delivering outstanding pharmacy services in a fast-paced, hospital environment? An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide near-patient pharmacy services in Medicines Management (MM).
This advert is for band 5 applicants. If we are not successful at recruiting at band 5 we are able to consider a band 4 applicant and are currently advertising for the post of Band 4 Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician. If you're interested in the band 4 role you will need to apply separately. Suitable band 4 applicants will be recruited into a progressive band 4 pharmacy technician post.

Job responsibilities
1. Providing medicines management or other technical information to healthcare professionals both within and externally to the trust to ensure continuity of care.
2. Communicating with other health care professionals regarding difficulties in supplying medicines to ensure appropriate patient care is always maintained.
3. Achieving and maintaining accredited and/or extended competencies in area of practice as identified in local pathway documentation.
4. Supervising, planning, and managing day-to-day work of allocated staff, reviewing and reallocating tasks when necessary to meet workload demands.
5. Deputising for operational manager and providing leadership where necessary e.g., at weekends/on late nights.
6. Responsible for the management of junior staff including supervision, appraisal and informal management processes.
7. Involved in the recruitment and induction of new staff including recruitment chair.
8. Creating and developing operating procedures and ensuring that staff are following processes accordingly.
9. Acting as a role model and mentor to junior staff; providing support, guidance training and assessment as needed to develop staff.
10. Responsible for the contribution to service improvement, evaluation, and development.
11. Responsible for the review, development and implementation of local Standard operating procedures.
12. Responsible for the safe storage and supply of medicines. Maintaining knowledge of regulations and legislation associated with medicines.

Qualifications / training required
* Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC
* Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent
* One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications - Accredited Checking PT (ACPT), Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC), medicine management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day to day operational management of staff.
* Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision
* Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent.
* Additional pharmacy qualifications e.g. Completed APTUK Foundation Framework Foundation management or other recognised management qualification or demonstrable management experience
Previous or relevant experience necessary
* Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital or community pharmacy or aseptics)
* Dealing with customers/patients
* Hospital pharmacy experience
* Stock control/ordering experience
* Experience of JAC or similar computer labelling/ordering system
* Experience relevant to role applied for e.g. Providing a ward based medicines management service, Clinical Trials or research experience, Aseptic services experience
Aptitudes and skills required
* Communicate effectively with others both in speaking and in writing
* Good team worker
* Attention to detail and accurate in work e.g. dispensing, calculations
* Able to use a range information technology programmes effectively
