Our client is a leader in drivetrain technologies, serving industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining, mechanical engineering, ship technology, rail, and commercial vehicles.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will manage the engineering team on a day-to-day basis, overseeing workload and workshop activities.
This role acts as a technical intermediary between the Head of Engineering and the engineering team, providing additional expertise, experience, and assurance. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will handle their own engineering tasks, manage team activities, and review outputs before approval by the Head of Engineering.
The role contributes to team development and operational efficiency to ensure the company meets or exceeds customer requirements, delivering quality engineered products and services on time, within budget, and safely.
The Role:
1. Manage the engineering team daily, including workload and workshop activities.
2. Possess mechanical engineering experience, particularly in component and system failure analysis.
3. Support the business through hands-on engineering tasks such as condition assessments, FAIs, warranty investigations, troubleshooting, creating method statements, overhaul instructions, test procedures, material analysis, report review, and sign-off.
4. Identify and support training needs to promote ongoing team development in engineering, safety, and related areas.
5. Assist purchasing and quality teams with supplier selection and assessment.
6. Contribute to the development and management of engineering processes, especially in safety-critical environments.
7. Understand and operate within relevant quality standards for mechanical and rail engineering systems.
8. Act as deputy for the Head of Engineering when necessary.
The Candidate:
1. Experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with at least an HNC/HND or equivalent in a mechanical discipline.
2. Knowledge of drivetrain systems and associated equipment (e.g., transmissions, gearboxes, couplings) is highly beneficial.
3. Experience managing an engineering team, with skills in general engineering, reverse engineering, testing, problem-solving, technical reporting, and task management.
4. Familiarity with industries such as heavy engineering, rail, marine, power generation, and oil & gas.
The Package:
Offering up to £70,000 plus bonus, private medical, dental, and other benefits.
