What you’ll be doing:
As the HR Manager, you will lead a team and work closely with the HR Director to provide a comprehensive, professional, and customer-focused HR service covering a broad range of generalist and strategic activity.
You will also support the implementation of the wider people strategy and have a clear understanding of the Company aims and objectives and how the HR strategies can support the achievement of these.
Working alongside the HR Director and other HR colleagues, you will provide responsive, high-quality specialist advice, supporting managers on all aspects of human resources including employee relations, HR policy development, succession planning, performance management, absence management, analysis of data reporting, compensation & benefits, and HR project work.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
1. In consultation with the HR Director, lead, contribute to, and provide oversight and coordination of the delivery of all employee relations case work.
2. Lead the proactive development of internal work systems and processes to continuously improve operational HR service delivery, contributing to the development of the HR team members.
3. Provide support to the HR Director in ensuring delivery of a professional service that ensures compliance with legislation, policy, and best practice.
4. Actively mentor the HRBPs to ensure that their personal and professional development influences the delivery of a mature and highly respected service, based on strong and credible relationships, professional specialist advice across a range of people management issues, and the provision of effective and realistic solutions.
5. Contribute to – leading where required – the development of a comprehensive set of HR policies and procedures that will underpin a partnership model of working with academic and support departments.
6. Deliver, in line with organisational needs, appropriate Key Performance Indicators and management information to inform compliance, workforce planning, and reporting.
7. Play a lead role in the delivery of an effective and efficient HR/Payroll integration, assuring cross-team expertise and the maintenance of delivery.
8. Take responsibility for the implementation of appropriate HR projects, including the development of action plans.
9. Work with Talent Acquisition to develop re-grading/promotion procedures, ensuring the integrity of staff grading decisions and that transparency can be demonstrated and equal pay principles satisfied.
10. Support the HR Director in maintaining and promoting productive TU consultation and good employee relations.
11. Play a key role in moving forward the Equality agenda, ensuring that the principles are promoted, developed, and integrated within all HR practices and procedures.
12. Engage in professional development activities to develop and maintain skills and knowledge of HR and employment law issues, particularly in an HE context, including actively engaging in sector networks.
13. Deputise for the HR Director in specific and appropriate circumstances, providing supervision of the operational HR team in the absence of the HR Director.
14. Promote equality and diversity, staff development, and staff well-being across all activities.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Degree or equivalent.
2. A proven record of successfully managing complex employee relations case work.
3. A proven record of achievement in a senior HR role, including the management of HR projects and initiatives.
4. A track record of successful HR policy development and implementation.
5. Experience of successful consultation and negotiation with trade unions.
6. Excellent motivational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in constructive partnership with a range of key stakeholders.
7. Thorough knowledge of current employment law and its application to the workplace.
8. An ability to work on own initiative, establish priorities, and multi-task to deadlines.
9. A strong commitment to quality enhancement and the personal learning and development of self and others.
10. Demonstrable supervisory and mentoring skills.
11. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
12. A strong commitment to equal opportunities.
13. Experience working in an engineering/manufacturing organisation.
14. Highly developed conflict resolution, mentoring, and coaching skills.
15. Experience of leading and managing projects.
