Exciting Opportunity: Solicitor
A well-established law firm with a renowned Regulatory Department is searching for driven legal professionals to join its highly regarded National Police team. This department is one of the largest in the country, widely recognised for its expertise and excellence in legal services across sectors including health, public, corporate and individual clients.
About the Role
This is primarily an advocacy-focused position, with regular (often daily) attendance at court hearings required. The role involves advising, preparing and presenting civil protective orders in Magistrates’ Courts. These include Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Stalking Protection Orders, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders, Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions and closure orders.
Our busy courts include Sussex, Guildford, Essex, Ipswich and Staines, so you must be willing and able to travel for 9:30 am court appearances.
Key Responsibilities:
* Managing a caseload of approximately 100 civil protective orders in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
* Drafting all paperwork for civil order applications, maintaining accurate records and managing administration and diary schedules
* Handling shared inboxes and providing ad hoc advice or support when team members are unavailable
* Presenting cases in Magistrates’ Courts (and Crown Court if you hold Higher Rights) on a daily basis
* Engaging with clients, respondents, defence solicitors, police officers and counsel
* Achieving financial and chargeable targets while maintaining accurate time recording
About You:
You will have a genuine interest in regulatory and advocacy work, along with the following skills and qualities:
* Experience drafting and presenting cases in court, with strong advocacy skills (or a willingness to develop them)
* Self-motivated and well-organised with excellent time management skills
* Exceptional communication and IT skills
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
* Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to travel as required
* Experience in advocacy within the Magistrates’ Court (desirable)
* Prior experience advising or acting on behalf of police forces (desirable)
Additional Requirements:
Employment is subject to successful Police Vetting clearance, which includes residency criteria compliance.
