Must:
1. I hold a degree in Software/Computing, a STEM subject, or have equivalent relevant experience.
2. I have experience in software development and programming in various languages such as C#, C/C++, Java, ADA, Visual Basic, and Unity. Proficiency in either C#, C++, or ADA is highly desirable, as I will be expected to coach and mentor junior engineers.
3. I possess knowledge/experience of the Common Image Generator Interface (CIGI), and I'm familiar with Image Generator technologies and toolsets, allowing me to support and mentor junior engineers.
4. I have knowledge of software design patterns and principles, ideally including experience with distributed or multi-application systems.
5. I am experienced in the Software Engineering lifecycle, including Agile methodologies.
6. I have experience using Configuration Management and Continuous Integration/Deployment tools (preferred: Dimensions, BitBucket, Bamboo).
In my role, I will:
1. Collaborate both as part of a team and independently to develop simulations for aircrew training simulators.
2. Develop, integrate, and test Image Generation Interfacing Software utilizing the Common Image Generator Interface (CIGI).
3. Provide subject matter expertise related to visual display interfacing software to mentor and support other software engineers.
4. Define, derive, and maintain requirements using DOORS (prior DOORS experience is welcomed, but training will be provided).
5. Define, derive, and maintain simulator designs using modeling-based design tools such as ARTiSAN (prior experience with design tools is welcomed; training will be provided).
6. Estimate timescales while managing my workload and providing regular feedback on the progress of tasks planned in JIRA.
Description
I have an exciting opportunity to join the Synthetic Training Team as a Senior Software Engineer – Visual Specialist. In this dynamic role, I will take an active part in developing real-time simulation software that supports training for fast jet aircrew, both for UK and overseas customers. I will work with a team providing subject matter expertise on visual systems, supporting the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software used for various aircrew training activities.
I will also explore new technologies for future products and use my interdisciplinary knowledge to enhance product capabilities and improve efficiency across all tasks. This role will engage me with both desktop-based systems and full mission simulator devices, allowing me to gain unique insights into the life of a fast jet pilot. There may also be opportunities to travel domestically and internationally for business related to the training devices.
