The Marine Directorate are looking for experienced people to join their fleet of 3 Marine protection vessels and 2 Marine research vessels. Marine Patrol Vessels (MPVs) enforce fisheries regulations and monitor compliance, while Marine Research Vessels (MRVs) conduct scientific research on marine life, fish stocks, and ecosystems. Together, they support sustainable fisheries management and marine conservation efforts.
On Marine Patrol Vessels (MPVs), your duties may include RIB coxswain, or acting as a boarding assistant on fisheries inspections (full training will be provided.) On Marine Research Vessels (MRVs), responsibilities include assisting with the loading, stowing, and maintenance of fishing and scientific equipment., + Perform deck maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting, greasing, ropework, and equipment storage.
+ Operate deck machinery and equipment safely.
+ Perform designated security duties.
+ Serve as RIB crew and perform navigational watchkeeping duties.
+ On Marine Patrol Vessels (MPVs), assist with boarding operations and serve as RIB crew -delivering inspectors to fishing vessels at sea.

Certificate of Proficiency as Able Seafarer Deck Regulation II/5 OR Efficient Deck Hand Certificate with demonstrable experience of working within the fishing industry.
A valid ENG1 certificate
Relevant STCW qualifications for seafarers serving on UK vessels.

Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on.
Technical / Professional Skills:
1. Vessel Maintenance able to demonstrate a range of best practices when undertaking maintenance on vessels (including chipping, painting, greasing and planned maintenance)
2. Watchkeeping for those with Able Seaman certificate, you will be able to demonstrate best practices whilst assisting the OOW during Bridge Watchkeeping.
3. Fishing Operations for those without Able Seaman certificate, you will be able to demonstrate prior experience within the fishing industry.
Experience:
