Empower Youth Zones is dedicated to providing opportunities and experiences to all local young people in Manchester and Salford. Our new state of the art centre in Salford is looking for the next generation of youth workers to join our team and help to build young futures today.
Wage: £11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices. After 12 months on programme the apprentice will be paid the Real Living Wage.
Training course: Youth support worker (level 3)
Hours: Work pattern will vary, to include some evenings and weekends as designated by the Head of Youthwork. 30 hours a week.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
* Assist in delivering a variety of ‘Rec area’ activity sessions, including sports, arts, and recreational activities.
* Build positive relationships with young people, acting as a role model and providing guidance and support.
* Ensure that sessions are inclusive, engaging, and meet the needs of young people from diverse backgrounds.
* Promote a positive, safe, and welcoming environment within the Youth Zone.
* Support young people in developing life skills, confidence, and positive behaviors.
* Assist in the safe setup and supervision of climbing wall sessions.
* Support young people in using the climbing wall, providing guidance on safety techniques and climbing skills.
* Assist in the supervision of the Youth Zone’s gym ensuring safe use of equipment by young people through assessing pre work out questionnaires and conducting user inductions.
* Provide basic fitness guidance and support young people in achieving their fitness goals.
* Help with setting up and packing away equipment for sessions.
* Support the work of our Reception and catering teams as required.
* Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed, including conducting risk assessments.
* Assist with behaviour management and safeguarding during sessions.
* Work with the wider team to plan and evaluate sessions, contributing ideas to improve youth engagement.
* Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and development opportunities as required.

* Recognise, manage and reflect upon relational boundaries in professional youth support work.
* Communicate with stakeholders - internal and/or external.
* Facilitate the learning and development of young people.

* Facilitate activities and techniques to use with young people that promote self-confidence and build self-esteem and resilience.
* Reflect individually and through supervision on practice in line with daily tasks to enhance the support young people receive.
* Monitor and record the outcomes of own practice to identify areas for development and improvement.
* Appropriately manage behaviour boundaries in line with organisational policies.
* Plan youth support work programmes and sessions.
* Lead youth support work programmes and sessions.
* Evaluate youth support work programmes and sessions.
* Enable young people to express their views, aspirations, needs and concerns appropriately in line with youth support work principles.
* Identify, appropriately challenge and act upon oppressive or discriminatory attitudes, behaviours and situations.
* Support young people to participate in planning, organising, delivering and evaluating youth work activities and programmes, and engaging on issues of importance to them.
* Embed in own practice a commitment to the rights of young people.
* Apply safeguarding procedures and protocols.
* Work within the parameters of organisational, local and national health and safety, child protection, data protection and equalities policies and procedures.
* Participate in risk assessments and manage risk and risk benefits within the workplace.
* Record all health and safety risks and take the correct actions to ensure the safety of all young people.
* Complete administrative responsibilities e.g., signing in young people, risk assessments and recording activities.
* Manage budgets and resources.
* Manage individuals in line with organisational procedures.
* Work with and maintain professional behaviour boundaries when working with young people.
Your training plan
We are dedicated to training our Youth Workers to the highest level. We will support our new apprentices to work towards achieving the industry recognised Level 3 Youth Support Worker Apprenticeship. On completion, they will receive a level 3 Diploma in Youth Work and may have the opportunity to progress to a higher-level (degree) apprenticeship.
The apprentice will work on average 4 days per week at the HideOut Youth Zone (M12 5PX) and attend Bolton College (BL3 5BG) 1 day per week.

GCSE in:

Other requirements
Applications should include GCSE qualifications achieved or predicted for English and maths. Applicants must be able to travel to the workplace at HideOut Youth Zone (M12 5PX) daily and to attend Bolton College (BL3 5BG) 1 day (6 hours) per week. The scheduled hours and working day will change dependent on the needs of the Youth Zone. This can include shift work. The apprentice’s working week can include evening and weekend work or occasionally at another site.
