We are seeking an experienced Senior Bids and Tenders Manager to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity for someone looking to step up or transition into a pivotal role focused on shaping our approach to securing new business opportunities. You will lead the development and execution of a best practice tenders and proposals framework designed to maximize our chances of winning strategically important contracts.
We need you to bring a level of challenge to the business, adding value to strategic and commercial conversations. You’ll be more than someone that runs a process or oversees transactions. You’ll want to be involved and take charge, directing the SMEs and the business.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of bids (working closely with a wider team of SMEs) and the strategic development of our processes. This includes:
* Managing and coordinating the bid pipeline
* Qualifying opportunities with our leadership team
* Developing bid win strategy with our Ops and Commercial teams
* Coordinating and collaborating with SMEs to generate high quality, persuasive content
* Leading debriefs and embedding lessons learned
* Coaching presentation teams
* Identifying and implementing improvements
* Contributing to proposition development
* Continuous improvement of our bid process.
Core Responsibilities:
* Implementation of a best practice bid framework including:
* Well planned and governed bid process
* Creation of high quality tender and proposal collateral working with a team of business SMEs
* Definition of tender strategy and win themes
* Implementation of an efficient collateral / knowledge management solution
* Ensuring commercial modelling is aligned with the overall tender process
* Management of bid life cycle for active bids:
* Ownership of the coordination of bid and tender preparation for the regional business leaders from the point of opportunity being identified to the point of final stage submissions
* Coordinate key stakeholders to develop and articulate solution design as per bid requirements
* Using project management techniques to ensure a well-planned, organised, and controlled process, taking personal responsibility to drive the process forward.
* Manage the submission of bids on time and in the format required for successful participation in the bid process.
* Maintaining an up-to-date assessment of opportunity pipeline, incorporating CDC, static and Lung Health market opportunities, including contract renewals.
* Ensuring we have a clear win strategy for each bid (based on solid commercial awareness), articulating it to the team in a convincing way and ensuring that the strategy is implemented throughout the process.
* Managing bid strategy meetings confidently, inspiring enthusiasm and support for the bid.
* Provide hands-on management and support including the drafting, editing, formatting and production of bid documents and pitches through to completion and/or engagement of bid writing specialists as required.
* Working closely with bid writers, as and when required, to ensure the bid document is compelling, bespoke to the client’s needs, well written, attractive and accurate.
* Working with the Regional Manager and the Chief Commercial and Operations Officer to manage the bid pipeline, maximizing the chances of success when the bid invitation arrives.
* Continually develop our library of high-quality baseline materials for use in proposals as standard text.
* Make continual improvements to our understanding and implementation of bid best practice.
* Review our bid activity on an ongoing basis to ensure best practice is benchmarked against competitor activity and bid feedback.
* Conduct debriefs and analyse feedback on our performance on bids, whether won or lost, and use this intelligence to improve the quality of future bids.
* Define and promote best practice proposal processes across the business.
Skills and Experience:
* Experience of managing bids for small medium and large scale opportunities, ideally within the healthcare sector.
* High levels of credibility with the ability to influence, challenge and coach senior stakeholders.
* Strong strategic and commercial awareness, and evidence of how you have used this to develop winning strategies.
* Understand sales theory and best practice with proven experience of applying that to successfully defend/win clients.
* Excellent project management techniques with the determination and drive to make things happen.
* Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills, with the ability to adapt style to different audiences and channels.
* Knowledge, experience and understanding of pitch presentation skills and best practice.
* An ability to understand technical knowledge and translate into digestible content.
* A self-starter who can work on own initiative and is proactive in developing ideas and solutions.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to liaise confidently and build relationships with people of all levels.
* Keen attention to detail.
* Able to work within a team effectively and collaboratively.
* Good at working on simultaneous projects, often to tight deadlines, and being calm under pressure.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience leading bid teams and bid functions in dynamic organisations.
* Knowledge of NHS / Public Sector procurement.
* Knowledge of NHS CDC policy and NHS England requirements is desirable.
* Bid management experience within the healthcare sector desirable.
* Proven experience working with business leaders.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word at an intermediate/advanced level.
* APMP, Prince2, MSP or similar qualification would be desirable.
