The Occupational Therapist (OT) role within the Education and Inclusion (E&I) Therapy Service is expanding. You'll work in a multi-agency team, including Speech and Language Therapists, to support students' sensory and physical needs. You'll assess needs, report on interventions, and advise on strategies to ensure students can access their day with as much independence as possible. The E&I Therapy Service collaborates closely with SEN for specific assessments and intervention blocks.
Ideal candidates will have experience with children with sensory difficulties and additional needs. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively with colleagues and other professionals, and understand the importance of flexibility and confidentiality. You'll make sound judgments based on assessments and translate them into effective actions.
The role covers an extensive area of Hampshire, so you must meet the travel requirements, typically needing a full driving licence and access to a car. Reasonable adjustments will be considered for declared disabilities.
Role Responsibilities:
* To work within a complex needs multi-agency team, which includes Speech and Language Therapists, to support students in their education journey, specifically around their sensory and physical needs.
* To support the student through their education journey, the OT will assess needs and report upon interventions to ensure they can access all aspects of their day with as much independence as possible. This includes establishing students’ sensory difficulties and differences and advising on specific strategies and interventions linked to their assessed sensory needs.
* To work closely with SEN who will commission work of the OT for specific assessments and intervention blocks.
* To work sensitively to establish the students’ needs and requirements.
About you
Your Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* Professional Occupational Therapy Qualification and be registered with the HCPC.
* Experience, knowledge and a strong passion for working with children with Sensory differences and difficulties and using sensory based approaches.
* Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate and engage well and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
* Ability to use initiative to solve day-to-day problems as they arise within given parameters.
* IT skills to confidently complete all recording activities the role demands.
* Highly organised and able to manage time and conflicting demands effectively.
* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.
It is desirable you hold the post graduate certificate in Ayres Sensory Integration Therapy or equivalent. (or willingness to complete Sensory Integration Training with SIE, job training, subject to payback agreement, specific terms discussed during the hiring process).
